My device for saving energy is the
Kublai presentation kit.
I am the director of project named
Kublai. It is a community of creatives targeted especially at the lagging areas of Italy, where social trust is way down. My job entails travelling a lot to creative events and meetups to pitch Kublai to participants: every person and every shared idea counts. Last year I spent more than 120 days on the road. Even if I don't have a car, that's
Now the community has grown in size (heading for 2,000 creatives, more 250+ projects are being discussed) and degree of self organization (there is a Creative Club where the most active community members normally hang out). So my idea for 2010 is to give people an online course in presentation ad ask them to speak for the Kublai community instead of having me as its sole representative. We'll make slides available online, and ship things like pins and stickers if need be.
I'm thinking I can cut my trips by half, spread presentation skills (that creatives in Italy badly need to communicate their own projects to potential allies, funders and investors), and get people more involved with just one move. Again, the trick is to move information (and responsibility) rather than atoms... and to trust people, too.
