Urgent Evoke

A crash course in changing the world.

I do not think of myself as a social innovator yet... so I decided to have a look for what 'social innovation' might mean, this is what I found:

"Social innovation refers to new strategies, concepts, ideas and organizations that meet social needs of all kinds" - Wikipedia.

I take from this that a social innovator is someone who puts this definition into action. Someone who creates "new strategies, concepts, ideas and organizations that meet social needs of all kinds". So to think of myself as a social innovator I feel obliged to live up to this standard.

Now my favourite secret of social innovation would have to be this:

"think like a child – children have no limit to their thinking" - Innovation in Africa Tips: by Dave Tait.

This secret brings all other secrets under it's full potential. The other secrets include consideration of cultures, using what you already have, communication and more... but all of these things children already understand.

If you look for the one place where race, language or religion do not matter I think you will find it is among young children. They play in a universal way that brings them together through creativity and imagination... two vital aspects of social innovation. They can make anything from the little they have at the time and most things are simple and not over-thought. Children have a larger view on situations, never excluding any possibilty.

If we took on this attitude using creativity and imagination to create change we could succeed sooner than we thought. I believe by reminding myself of the way young children think I could help bring sense into a world of chaos. No child would think that others starving is ok... or that poverty is 'not our problem' - if faced with these awful situations I believe any child would feel confused and upset, which is how we should all feel.

If we are going to be social innovators we need to think like a child and feel the way they do... they understand things we have forgotten... simple things like right and wrong.

I loved your post! I guess if little children knew about the problems of the world... they would cry =/

naaaah on a second thought, I think they would share as little or much as they have with the one that needs it =)

I think the same! I remember when I first started school and I forgot my lunch one day... I remember cause I thought I would die from starvation =P ... I had the biggest lunch that day because each of my classmates gave me a small amount of theirs =)

Well said, Erin. Great post. Keep up the great work and stay inspired. You are already a social innovator, even if you don't think you are.

"I love that you've brought this to attention. An extensive database of uncommon but resistant and hardy plants/foods could be developed and organized by climate. Ease of growth and processing should also be taken in to account. I will try to…"

Fourth of July on the Lake

This past weekend was the annual celebration at the lake house in Connecticut. It is amazing that the lake is still so clear and beautiful after all these years. The watershed association has done a wonderful job protecting these waters from the damaging effects of development. The wood grill was finally ready to cook on, so we didn't miss the propane tank fueled grill anymore. The food actually tasted fresher than in the past and was easy to keep fueled.Dad was very proud of the solar hybrid…See More

Future

FutureToday is 2020/1/1. It is just like yesterday. The war is still continuing. It has started since 2010. In 2010, that year was a horrible year. Almost every energy ran out. Every country’s governments were crushed down at the same time. There were riots everywhere. All of the big company’s bosses were killed xdeadx in the riots. Troops fought each other everywhere. Food was bought up xawayx at once. There were no more food supplies in any shops. The economy was all crushed down. All the…See More

public servants

The exchange works directly for state and public workers and servants. It gives them credit in exchange for the amount of public work they contribute to the community. The more constructive they are based off a base rate the more credit they recieve.
