I've chosen to "shadow" Rob Hopkins. He's a social innovator that founded the
Transition Network.
It's aim is to reduce dependency on oil, and other systemic problems by focusing on community and local
resilience.
While the site talks a lot about Oil, Energy and Food, I believe "Transition Culture", "Transition Towns" and even "Transition Communities" can do a lot for the social well being of it's members too.
I'm lucky enough to come from a place in the world with abundant resources and more livable square kilometers per person than anywhere. Many are still under the illusion that resources are limitless and many of the problems the world is facing don't affect us. I see "
urban sprawl" and low density communities where no one knows their neighbors.
I'd like to see how Transition Culture can unite communities in larger cities, reducing dependence on certain systems while increasing the health and cooperation of it's residents.
I've subscribed to the site's RSS feed and am reading "The Transition Handbook".
