I'm learning more about
women's empowerment right now, and in particular what I'm wondering
about is: What are the roles women play in the world? I was researching
this question online, and this news item caught my attention because...
I chose this item to read because it looked very interesting. It's
called "UN expert on trafficking in persons visits Egypt." And also, I
wanted to get to know what specific women are making a difference in
the world.
"She will also consult with representatives of
international and civil society organizations working on the fight
against trafficking in persons."
The quote I chose here is
basically saying UN Special Rapporteur on trafficking in persons,
especially women and children, Joy Ngozi Ezeilo, is working on the
fight against trafficking in persons in Cairo, Egypt.
I think
this is important because... It makes me wonder..." Human Trafficking
is the practice of people being tricked, lured, coerced or removed from
their home or country, and then forced to work with no or low payment
or on terms which are highly exploitative. The practice is considered
to be the trade or commerce of people, which has many features of
slavery, and which is illegal in most countries. The victims of human
trafficking are used in a variety of situations, including
prostitution, forced labor and other forms of involuntary servitude.
The sale of babies and children for adoption or other purposes is also
considered to be trafficking in those children."
