I'd like to introduce someone who has been a mentor to me in real life. He was the VP of Technology at the company I work for now, and taught me a lot about people, leadership, and as a result of those 2, management.
I met
Sunny after I was asked to leave a company I had been a senior developer and partner in. Sunny had been brought in to run the IT department for this small company after I left, and had found that working for this company came with some unique challenges, amongst them, we had a CTO that had done a lot of the development of the systems and did not doc**ent anything. This obviously created a horrible challenge beyond just managing the department for Sunny. Well, after struggling with this for some time, Sunny followed up on a name he heard come up a while talking about the system (me). When he asked the COO of the company about me, surprisingly, he was told to get in touch with me if he wanted. So after a little difficulty, he was able to arrange a meeting with me, at which time we talked and got to know each other a little over lunch. After this, Sunny asked me to come back as a consultant, and the role grew into me coming back as an architect and somewhat of a project manager as well.
I learned a great deal from Sunny about how to be a leader, and a good, moral person. I know he has done this for many people throughout his career, and I hope he gets the opportunity to help some of the people on this site, because I think there are a lot of bright young people here.
