A crash course in changing the world.
A story that inspires me is the one “Finding Justice for Survivor of Gender-Base Violence in Solamlia.” An example of a lack of women rights was a sixteen year old who was grabbing water, a guy asked her for the water and ended up taking her captive for two weeks and raped her repeatedly. There is a join initiative of UNFPA and the United Nations Development Programme. The person was convicted and sentenced to 20 years in prison. Gender faced violence is a challenge in Somalia. Ninety percent of all incidents reported in 213 and 2014 were rape, sexual and physical assault. The people who have endured this trauma have nowhere to turn for support. The problem is that there are a lot of customary laws and marriage arrangements. The country’s Ministry of Security deployed six female community police volunteers. Not only one sector can prevent gender violence. The program continues to change attitudes about sexual violence.
