A crash course in changing the world.
I wanted to take a second and drop some links to website I've found particularly inspiring and challenging.
http://www.ted.com - Technology, Entertainment, and Design conferance
TED is a conferance that brings the greatest minds in various fields together to give 18 minute presentations on whats new in their line of work. Everything from biologists, nano-eng., game designers to humanitarians, and social justice workers are featured. I can't rave about this site enough, if you were to only follow one website, make it this one!
http://www.longnow.org - Long Now Foundation
Started by two premire social innovators Stewart Brand and Kevin Kelly, this foundation focuses on long term thinking when tackling world issues. Once a month they hold a seminar in San Fransico, that features a social innovator, historian, scientist etc. They have the lectures posted on line and they are very well organized talks, that are geared towards problem solving. A social innovators dream!
http://www.iraqbodycount.org - Bringing the war closer to home
While not a social innovation site, it is important non-the-less. I like many other people often forget the cost of war. It is nearly impossible for me to conjure up any notion of what it must be like to be either a soldier or an Iraqi civilian. This site puts a face on the wars victims, it's a lesson no one should ever forget.
