Urgent Evoke

A crash course in changing the world.

Anyone interesting in pooling ideas, working jointly, etc.. to brainstorm effective social projects we can start doing the groundwork for and hopefully through networking and this site make some headway in a few months to really launc things please post.

I have always been interested in a project that allows African youth an opportunity to kind of break out and empower themselves, so a project that teaches them how to start a fishing business rather then just how to fish or handing out fish.

************************

This is awesome, just the volume of reception.  This site definitely gives us an opportunity to start working with others who are just as passionate and interested in change as ourselves so we need to take advantage of that fact to the max.

But back to business- I would really like to start an NPO that acts more or less as a social innovation thinktank. Basically we would accept any and all ideas anywhere around the world concerning projects focused on development, aid, etc..  We would screen those ideas and try to help propel them forward either through funding or guidance or networking, etc..  I don't think enough groups exist which focus on the general, on helping others with drive and expertise to turn their ideas into a reality to tackle a specific problem.  Furthermore, this NPO could allow for cooperation between projects it sponsors, for example two groups working on a med or economic project could focus on the specifics while collaborating on the big picture.

What do you guys think?

I'm going to start looking at the ground work for the NPO, outlining a charter and website, etc.. Meanwhile check out my blog, I'll have a post just for that and try to start working with anybody who is interested in the idea.

yes, a wiki would be awesome. even if we get only 50 EVOKE agents to use it, it would be good. will you set it up and let us know? i'll chip in for sure!

oh - and do you happen to know other middle-school teachers who would be interested in this project?

I've thrown the idea of putting together a collaborative Wiki for the EVOKE agents that'd want to use it to centralize and organize the ideas flowing here and there through the website. Do you guys think that's something you could use to help manage your projects ?
good idea
we can use the goog;e doc to act as the "outreach" program
and once we get teachers et involved
they can start using the wiki

stick the link for the wiki in the google doc

(wiki's have a tendency to diversify and thus lose focus with a certain number of participants
it's touch and go
so we need a kind of buffer :)

Interesting points, Happyseaurchin ! I usually push to have wikis split into different sections so that people, as you pointed, don't lose focus on what they're trying to achieve and what information they're trying to collect. Spaces of discussion - like a google doc**ent as you suggested, this forum, or whatever medium feel like using - are what helps keep knowledge and info repositories "clean" to me. I believe that'd be the buffer you mean ?
well...
its more important we get to action
and wiki's (as well as google docs) tend to knowledge accrete

google doc is to get everything on one page
so we can just get it done in the real world
that is
invite as many teachers into this game as possible...

(i use wiki's a lot:)

Ok, I see what you mean now ! You use your Google Docs the way I encourage people to manage the subsections of their wikis :)

But you're right - action matters at least as much (if not more) than information because otherwise...What's all this aggregating data for, right ?
I think a wiki is a great idea as well, especially, as Thomas said, if it prompts action. I am looking forward to how this wh*** enterprise evolves.
I was only responding to Happyseaurchin's call to action n_n

Files uploading to the server, connection is being a little sketchy today though ! Next up : setting up.

can you publish any other games I.E. an online game about sustainability???

I think this is great thread- I used to be a publisher of games and I realized that people learn through play amazingly well. As such, I had the idea of teaching kids life skills through a game, not online but a board or card game...through with the proliferation of cell phones in certain parts of Africa means we could include training apps of important life process- from planning out agriculture to social justice to how to fish to how to start a business to collaboration team building games...

The sky is the limit if we apply our selves...
this seems really interesting guys we some more solidified ideas and we are doing this all on a very public blog can i suggest we all put our emails in and andrew as our project leader can then talk to all of us on how we can help etc.
Wiki setup complete, waiting for the subdomain name to go live - I'll link to it as soon as it starts responding !
Thanks!

You're welcome ! However, Marcinina pointed to something very interesting - there already is an EVOKE wiki up and running, Alchemy saw us coming ! I suggest we don't scatter our information sources, and use the official wiki instead. The wiki is at http://urgentevoke.wikia.com/.

See you guys there !

Fourth of July on the Lake

This past weekend was the annual celebration at the lake house in Connecticut. It is amazing that the lake is still so clear and beautiful after all these years. The watershed association has done a wonderful job protecting these waters from the damaging effects of development. The wood grill was finally ready to cook on, so we didn't miss the propane tank fueled grill anymore. The food actually tasted fresher than in the past and was easy to keep fueled.Dad was very proud of the solar hybrid…See More

Stinging Nettle

In this blog post I will focus on a plant that is abundant in our nature, and which is immensely nutritious. It's of course the Stinging Nettle. Let's start with the chemical constituents of this plant:37 % Non-Nitrogen-Extracts19 - 29 % Ash9 - 21 % Fiber4 % Fat22 % ProteinOnce the leaves are drid, their protein content can reach an astounding 40 %, which is much higher than beef, which even under the best of circ**stances can never exceed 31 % protein. In addition the Stinging Nettle consists…See More

It is 7'oclock, I was late home from work due to an assignment that i wanted to get ahead on. By the time I get home I am feeling extremley tired and I cannot be bothered to make a proper meal. All of the out of date foodstuffs have been automaticaly thrown away by the fridge, they will be recycled tomorrow as animal feed or something. I see i have organic local eggs and some local cheese. Future

FutureToday is 2020/1/1. It is just like yesterday. The war is still continuing. It has started since 2010. In 2010, that year was a horrible year. Almost every energy ran out. Every country’s governments were crushed down at the same time. There were riots everywhere. All of the big company’s bosses were killed xdeadx in the riots. Troops fought each other everywhere. Food was bought up xawayx at once. There were no more food supplies in any shops. The economy was all crushed down. All the…See More

public servants

The exchange works directly for state and public workers and servants. It gives them credit in exchange for the amount of public work they contribute to the community. The more constructive they are based off a base rate the more credit they recieve.
