Urgent Evoke

A crash course in changing the world.

I strongly believe that new forms of farming are going to be the biggest social change agent in the next 50 years.

When Alchemy calls I will have launched an African Vertical Farm in my hometown of Cape Town, overlooking the sea and the ground-breaking technology used here will be needed to solve Tokyo's food shortage.

Gorgeous image - and solid idea. We've been using vertical methods to store people for decades, makes sense to start using vertical space for food, too.

Fascinating concept. Will be interested to investigate how they deal with sun angles and rain capture/irrigation.

@Chelsea, indeed the plant kingdom needs to be accommodated in an urban manner :)

@Robert, vertical farming makes use of hydroponics and aquaponics so those light and water are artificially managed. But don't worry, it uses less energy and allows for natural eco-systems to flourish because it removes the disastrous land-eating commercial farming that is used today.

The goal of being part of the vertical farming movement is awesome - I'm totally intrigued by the concept, and cannot wait to see one working in practice!

I prefer permaculture, but it`s a nice idea :) I guess my imagination will be about permaculture.

I just find it rather funny that to free up the land we clutter the sky instead. Nevertheless it is much better than having 100 acres being owned by a single farmer.

permaculture is an attractive route; the return to natural, organic ways. but can it feed a population double the size of the current population, reliably? have you watched 'the power of community" about the permaculture/organic urban farming movement in cuba? it is really inspiring stuff; if we were all as dedicated as the cubans, many of our essential problems would be solved.

That has to be one of the most beautiful things I've ever seen.

And its not an either/or question with permaculture, because permaculture encourages these types of inventions. Its all about realizing the you live in a designed space, and have the capacity to re-design it to suit your needs and not arbitrary social norms.

Permaculture is my preference at the scale I participate but on a commercial level vertical, although maybe not sky scraper high has many advantages such as location close to market, minimization of water consumption, preservation of natural habitat etc.

Very interesting concept. It's a truly beautiful image.

Fourth of July on the Lake

This past weekend was the annual celebration at the lake house in Connecticut. It is amazing that the lake is still so clear and beautiful after all these years. The watershed association has done a wonderful job protecting these waters from the damaging effects of development. The wood grill was finally ready to cook on, so we didn't miss the propane tank fueled grill anymore. The food actually tasted fresher than in the past and was easy to keep fueled.Dad was very proud of the solar hybrid…See More

Stinging Nettle

In this blog post I will focus on a plant that is abundant in our nature, and which is immensely nutritious. It's of course the Stinging Nettle. Let's start with the chemical constituents of this plant:37 % Non-Nitrogen-Extracts19 - 29 % Ash9 - 21 % Fiber4 % Fat22 % ProteinOnce the leaves are drid, their protein content can reach an astounding 40 %, which is much higher than beef, which even under the best of circ**stances can never exceed 31 % protein. In addition the Stinging Nettle consists…See More

Future

FutureToday is 2020/1/1. It is just like yesterday. The war is still continuing. It has started since 2010. In 2010, that year was a horrible year. Almost every energy ran out. Every country’s governments were crushed down at the same time. There were riots everywhere. All of the big company’s bosses were killed xdeadx in the riots. Troops fought each other everywhere. Food was bought up xawayx at once. There were no more food supplies in any shops. The economy was all crushed down. All the…See More

public servants

The exchange works directly for state and public workers and servants. It gives them credit in exchange for the amount of public work they contribute to the community. The more constructive they are based off a base rate the more credit they recieve.
