A crash course in changing the world.

As a resident of Kentucky, one of the worst crises of environment and food production is the destruction of Appalachia by mining companies. This is an example of mountaintop removal. The company comes in, essentially blows off the top of the mountain to get to the coal inside. This means that the valleys are filled, killing the plant life therein. Also, the sediment washes through what was once proper farmland, destroying it. Then, the loss of plant life on top means that whenever precipitation happens, or during the spring thaw, erosion is a huge problem.
I would have blogged about this, but an image does so much more. It looks like a wound or a cancer.
