Women's Issues Explored with GapMinder

Hans Rosling has used GapMinder to demonstrate what is happening with several issues concerning women.

Three issues are closely related: maternal mortality, childhood mortality, and population growth.

Maternal mortality

It is estimated that half a million women die during pregnancy and childbirth, but the uncertainty makes it difficult to determine if we are doing the right things that will reduce the number… Continue

Global Network for Neighborhood Energy Self-sufficiency Teams

There many ways to save energy, generate it more cheaply, and use renewable sources. How I would do it is focus on adding much more insulation to my house, switching over to heating, cooling, and hot water heating with geothermal energy from below my house, and telecommuting rather than taking the commuter train. Many people should be doing similarly, and we would save a huge percentage of our energy.

Helping my neighbors do the same kind of things will help me as well, because then we… Continue

Money will always have some value

This is partly a response to a comment by Ezra in my blog "Money is information, but does it want to be free?" in which I asked that question, and this blog will provide my answer. Part of Ezra's argument regarding money is in "An Irrelevant Problem in a Resource-based Economy"

If I understand correctly, Ezra claimed that money was invented to provide a… Continue

Sustainability = Renewable Energy + Time

Everything we need to do to become 100% sustainable boils down to having two things: enough renewable energy and the time to use it.

The good news is that we have more than enough renewable energy available to us to do everything we need. The question is whether we will have enough time to use it, to clean up our global messes before numerous ecological crises become… Continue

Hello! I've been reading through your quests stories and i think your wanting to help humanity come together is real. It's good to find someone who actually believes in it and articulates it well, and does work towards it. You are right, the internet IS a mess, people DO genuinely feel lost in it, and I think EVERYONE longs to meaningfully connect. the way you explain this problem is on a practical and sincere level, not just lip service - I can tell by the way you are linking it in with everything you are doing and what motivates you. I'd just like to say - glad to know you, and that I feel like that as well. I think your way of understanding the problem of belonging and the ways that you are attending to it is rather great! :o) Best of luck. I'll write to you later in the game and we'll discuss it more if/when you want to with regards to Evokations etc. take care! :o)

"I love that you've brought this to attention. An extensive database of uncommon but resistant and hardy plants/foods could be developed and organized by climate. Ease of growth and processing should also be taken in to account. I will try to…"

Fourth of July on the Lake

This past weekend was the annual celebration at the lake house in Connecticut. It is amazing that the lake is still so clear and beautiful after all these years. The watershed association has done a wonderful job protecting these waters from the damaging effects of development. The wood grill was finally ready to cook on, so we didn't miss the propane tank fueled grill anymore. The food actually tasted fresher than in the past and was easy to keep fueled.Dad was very proud of the solar hybrid…See More

Stinging Nettle

In this blog post I will focus on a plant that is abundant in our nature, and which is immensely nutritious. It's of course the Stinging Nettle. Let's start with the chemical constituents of this plant:37 % Non-Nitrogen-Extracts19 - 29 % Ash9 - 21 % Fiber4 % Fat22 % ProteinOnce the leaves are drid, their protein content can reach an astounding 40 %, which is much higher than beef, which even under the best of circ**stances can never exceed 31 % protein. In addition the Stinging Nettle consists…See More

All of the out of date foodstuffs have been automaticaly thrown away by the fridge, they will be recycled tomorrow as animal feed or something. I see i have organic local eggs and some local cheese. Future

FutureToday is 2020/1/1. It is just like yesterday. The war is still continuing. It has started since 2010. In 2010, that year was a horrible year. Almost every energy ran out. Every country’s governments were crushed down at the same time. There were riots everywhere. All of the big company’s bosses were killed xdeadx in the riots. Troops fought each other everywhere. Food was bought up xawayx at once. There were no more food supplies in any shops. The economy was all crushed down. All the…See More

public servants

The exchange works directly for state and public workers and servants. It gives them credit in exchange for the amount of public work they contribute to the community. The more constructive they are based off a base rate the more credit they recieve.
