Beyond access: Quality education for life - Special podcast for the United Nations Girls' Education Initiative

There are a couple of things I see in here that could help with education. Number one among them is lobbying for the development of a comprehensive, relatively small, single… Continue

Using indigenous herbs.

INDIGENOUS WOMEN HEALERS FORMED GROUPS TO PRACTICE TRADITIONAL MEDICINE IN OAXACA

(MEXICO)

from http://www.kivu.com/wbbook/casestudies.html

So, the most important thing I get out of this is that not only can communities use natural herbs as perhaps a more trusted alternative to pills etc, but it's also cheaper and has more widespread effects- here, the creation…

BC Earthquake

One of the big natural disasters we've been waiting to happen here is a major earthquake. Ushahidi could help with resource sharing post-quake. However, this would require some form of communication if cell towers were downed.

Info on water and food would be the most useful, as well as transportation or emergency/high occupancy building collapses that needed immediate attention.

Additionally, info shared on which areas to stay away from in the incidence of flooding or riots would be… Continue

water water everywhere

Living in BC, this is a problem I've never had to deal with, so it might be outside my scope to try and recognize many of the problems inherent to this idea. However, I do have a friend who works in Mexico with the water wells. One of the big problems is water purity. If someone could invent a filter made, for example of some form of wood fibre that could be produced locally, it might help solve the problem without requiring distribution or donation of anything but a set of instructions of how… Continue

I used to have sim Life. Wasn't very good at it. It sounds like fun, i'm already in farmtown, the pre farmville. I don't know how you'd go about coding for ecologies..but I know of sources of info for them if you need them.

Hi - I think you have something with the FarmVille analogy. The more fun and addictive the game - the more players do it. EvokeVille could have some seriously gamey things like FarmVille. Personally, I don't play FarmVille, but my facebook friends do - if you could take evoke problems to the real online ma****, it would be fierce. Let me know if you do anything...I know that the game-makers don't accept unsolicited submissions of ideas, howver, it might be worth getting to know a smallish person in the company, and getting the ideas through - this will only work if you don't want to protect your IPR. Either way - let me know! :o) Take care.

Hahahahahaha! I was thinking the same myself. How could we make a farmville game where people actually learned bout their local ecologies?

transplant medicine sure is interesting stuff, i wrote a paper in my undergrad about that. I was really interested in the stuff Anthony Atala was doing with tissue engineering. Hopefully that field finds more success, as I know there are so many in need.

Fourth of July on the Lake

This past weekend was the annual celebration at the lake house in Connecticut. It is amazing that the lake is still so clear and beautiful after all these years. The watershed association has done a wonderful job protecting these waters from the damaging effects of development. The wood grill was finally ready to cook on, so we didn't miss the propane tank fueled grill anymore. The food actually tasted fresher than in the past and was easy to keep fueled.Dad was very proud of the solar hybrid…See More

Stinging Nettle

In this blog post I will focus on a plant that is abundant in our nature, and which is immensely nutritious. It's of course the Stinging Nettle. Let's start with the chemical constituents of this plant:37 % Non-Nitrogen-Extracts19 - 29 % Ash9 - 21 % Fiber4 % Fat22 % ProteinOnce the leaves are drid, their protein content can reach an astounding 40 %, which is much higher than beef, which even under the best of circ***tances can never exceed 31 % protein. In addition the Stinging Nettle consists…See More

It is 7'oclock, I was late home from work due to an assignment that i wanted to get ahead on. By the time I get home I am feeling extremley tired and I cannot be bothered to make a proper meal. I walk to the fridge and open it to see what there is for me to eat. All of the out of date foodstuffs have been automaticaly thrown away by the fridge, they will be recycled tomorrow as animal feed or something. I see i have organic local eggs and some local cheese. Future

FutureToday is 2020/1/1. It is just like yesterday. The war is still continuing. It has started since 2010. In 2010, that year was a horrible year. Almost every energy ran out. Every country’s governments were crushed down at the same time. There were riots everywhere. All of the big company’s bosses were killed xdeadx in the riots. Troops fought each other everywhere. Food was bought up xawayx at once. There were no more food supplies in any shops. The economy was all crushed down. All the…See More

public servants

The exchange works directly for state and public workers and servants. It gives them credit in exchange for the amount of public work they contribute to the community. The more constructive they are based off a base rate the more credit they recieve.

Where I will be in ten years.

Ten years from now I will be in a political job assisting with people in the midlands of South Carolina particularly the rural working class and farmers. As the class of people that feed the nation I find that it is imperative that we assist with making sure they produce as much food as possible. I would like to support local scientists as well that are leading in research on how to produce food more efficiently. I will also be participating in missions to foreign countries to help people with…See More
