Life in Nigeria for women in 2020

In 2020, the women of the "Help Women In Nigeria Become Poultry Farmers" article will be successful poultry farmers. The goal was to raise $5000 to teach 400 women to farm poultry in Nigeria. In 2020, they will no longer have to live dependently of their husbands/men. They will be able to support themselves and also teach their trade to future poultry farmers. They will no longer face problems with corrupt military leaders or government personnel. They will be living comfortably and bringing…

Evokation – People Value Company, Guizhou China

Section 1 – The Social Venture

The Venture

Agriculture today is financed much like any other big business: with a view of investment that only includes financial return. This approach, however, is limited in scope and leads to major negative environmental and social externalities. With few sources of capital available to smaller players in the sector, and with an increasingly competitive marketplace, large-scale agriculture is increasingly squeezing out smaller scale… Continue

Ethiopia 2020 -Journal Entry

Journal Entry May, 2020

Ate a delicious dinner with Jean, a schoolteacher from Ethiopia. We met online, and instantly realized that we shared the goal of using technology in education. It didn't take long for us to get some projectors shipped, and start a webinar classroom in his home town, that was years ago, an I'm finally getting to meet him. The meal tonight was fantastic, its amazing how my diet has transformed, as I have transformed others diets as well.

Over the years of… Continue

Learn 4 Water Crisis Ogalla Aquifer

Under the bread basket of the United States lies a valuable resource of water that includes South Dekota Nebraska, Wyoming, Colorado, Kansas, Oklahoma, New Mexico and Texas. These are the regions that supplies at least one fifth of the total annual U.S. agricultural harvest. If the aquifer goes dry, more than $20 billion worth of food and fiber will vanish from the world’s markets. And scientists say it will take natural processes 6,000 years to refill the reservoir. In some places the… Continue

Connecting Farmers to Healthy Food Corner Store

Through investigation, I have found that local farmers, need more networks throughout Northeast Wisconsin. I located a non profit organization (Healthy Food Corner Store)that I thought would be able to identify local Supported Agriculture (CSA) farms. Once I did find a site, there are no CSA's located within 20 miles of where I live. I invited a CSA farmer to join the Healthy Food Corner Store network, and the farmer is excited to be in a directory where people like me can find a… Continue

Asian Tigers don't grow rice.

As a wealthy trading nation, there is no shortage of food in the supermarkets of Taiwan. But most of it is imported, and I was amazed to learn that about 25% of farmland in Taiwan is unused.

Trudging around in the mud on the family small-holding is just not attractive to the current generation of highly-educated urban professionals. The average farm size is just 1.1 hectares (Japan 1.6, EU 20, USA 190) and the average age of farmers is 58 years, so I see a picture of old men struggling… Continue

This weekend is fall harvest weekend 2020! Fall harvest weekend has been going on for a few years now and we have benn looking forward to it for weeks. I get up extra early this saturday morning and go out to my vertical gardens ( I have five now ), all made from things that would have been thrown away!

A city teacher learns to eat from local, organic farms

In order to imagine a meal from the future, I'm going to refer to a list presented by two NYC environmental activists, Anhthu Hoang and James Suvudhi, from WE ACT. In the March 24, 2010 Green Times (NYC), they describe their "Top 10" ways for NYC "to reduce GHGs [Green House Gases] and improve the…

Farmer's Market

A way for people in our community who are farmers or have gardens to share what they have is to have a weekly farmers market. Where I live there is a small green area in the center of town. I think that we could, every two weeks, have a small farmers market, where people who have different crops cannot only sell them to people, but trade them with other farmers or gardeners in order to get the different fruits or vegetables that we need.

Act 2

One of the reasons I moved from Los Angeles to Riverside was to learn how to farm. When I was 14, my parents bought a dilapidated old mansion with boards over all the windows, a roof that was caving in, and a huge rotting eucalyptus grove. All of the soil had turned hydrophobic from the oils in the eucalyptus, and there were hardly any plants growing. A huge flock of crows infested the area, killing off smaller birds and creating a deafening cacophany with their…

Fourth of July on the Lake

This past weekend was the annual celebration at the lake house in Connecticut. It is amazing that the lake is still so clear and beautiful after all these years. The watershed association has done a wonderful job protecting these waters from the damaging effects of development. The wood grill was finally ready to cook on, so we didn't miss the propane tank fueled grill anymore. The food actually tasted fresher than in the past and was easy to keep fueled.Dad was very proud of the solar hybrid…See More

Stinging Nettle

In this blog post I will focus on a plant that is abundant in our nature, and which is immensely nutritious. It's of course the Stinging Nettle. Let's start with the chemical constituents of this plant:37 % Non-Nitrogen-Extracts19 - 29 % Ash9 - 21 % Fiber4 % Fat22 % ProteinOnce the leaves are drid, their protein content can reach an astounding 40 %, which is much higher than beef, which even under the best of circ**stances can never exceed 31 % protein. In addition the Stinging Nettle consists…See More

Future

FutureToday is 2020/1/1. It is just like yesterday. The war is still continuing. It has started since 2010. In 2010, that year was a horrible year. Almost every energy ran out. Every country’s governments were crushed down at the same time. There were riots everywhere. All of the big company’s bosses were killed xdeadx in the riots. Troops fought each other everywhere. Food was bought up xawayx at once. There were no more food supplies in any shops. The economy was all crushed down. All the…See More

public servants

The exchange works directly for state and public workers and servants. It gives them credit in exchange for the amount of public work they contribute to the community. The more constructive they are based off a base rate the more credit they recieve.
