Evoke 1.1 - after 12 May

As far as I understand, the Evoke site will continue to be available after 12 May. I came into this a bit late, but would love to continue using this resource in the future - especially next semester…Continue

I've stumbled across many complaints about Evoke as I've been reading, and it set me thinking about something someone once said to me: You don't have to get it perfect, you have to get it going.Well,…Continue

I've just returned after a week off (thanks to Telecom for losing my payment details!) and found that Evoke is just as confusing as before. In fact, it's even more confusing. There seems to be a lot…Continue

Resources for Evokations

I've been looking at other people's plans to try and get good ideas about PRESENTING my own plan, and I wanted to share a few resources with the community.

There's an awful amount of passion on show at Evoke, and some of the Evokations look amazing. But many are also a bit 'one-sided' in that they focus on the problem rather than the strategy for solving it and what you can contribute. They're all about what we need (in order to solve… Continue

Gamers, teachers, I need your ideas

I'd like your opinions about motivation, especially as regards Evoke. I've seen some posts about the gameplay aspect of this site, and some posts about teaching, but not seen the two groups talking very much.

I used to work in sales, now I'm a teacher, and I'm participating in Evoke after seeing Jane's TED speech about using games to teach people. I use stuff like… Continue

Resistance is Useless

This is a story I wrote a couple of years ago, copied here for the benefit of anyone dealing with impossible demands.

One of my students told me something wonderful last night, and I want to share it with the world.

It has to do with the power of positive thinking, improvised comedy, success in our endeavours, an advertising slogan used by a famous sportswear company, and the ritual humiliation of English teachers in high schools. It may also be relevant to…

I saw an announcement that you would like to form Evoke 1.5, to carry on between sessions. I am a teacher in Denver, CO. I only discovered Urgent Evoke when it was more than 3/4 over. I am very interested in using it next year with my students. I would be very interested in working with you and other teachers over the summer so that I can make a good presentation to my principal, and so get permission to use Urgent Evoke in my classroom. Please let me know your plans.

Thanks for the wiki offer! I'll definitely keep that in mind as I finalize the plans. For clarification, are you willing to host a unique domain on your account? One that could include more than just a wiki, if necessary? (I definitely want some kind of profile pages, and a forum, which might work better outside of a wiki, though I'm not sure.)

Thanks!

Fourth of July on the Lake

This past weekend was the annual celebration at the lake house in Connecticut. It is amazing that the lake is still so clear and beautiful after all these years. The watershed association has done a wonderful job protecting these waters from the damaging effects of development. The wood grill was finally ready to cook on, so we didn't miss the propane tank fueled grill anymore. The food actually tasted fresher than in the past and was easy to keep fueled.Dad was very proud of the solar hybrid…See More

Stinging Nettle

In this blog post I will focus on a plant that is abundant in our nature, and which is immensely nutritious. It's of course the Stinging Nettle. Let's start with the chemical constituents of this plant:37 % Non-Nitrogen-Extracts19 - 29 % Ash9 - 21 % Fiber4 % Fat22 % ProteinOnce the leaves are drid, their protein content can reach an astounding 40 %, which is much higher than beef, which even under the best of circ**stances can never exceed 31 % protein. In addition the Stinging Nettle consists…See More

It is 7'oclock, I was late home from work due to an assignment that i wanted to get ahead on. By the time I get home I am feeling extremley tired and I cannot be bothered to make a proper meal. I walk to the fridge and open it to see what there is for me to eat. All of the out of date foodstuffs have been automaticaly thrown away by the fridge, they will be recycled tomorrow as animal feed or something. I see i have organic local eggs and some local cheese. Future

FutureToday is 2020/1/1. It is just like yesterday. The war is still continuing. It has started since 2010. In 2010, that year was a horrible year. Almost every energy ran out. Every country’s governments were crushed down at the same time. There were riots everywhere. All of the big company’s bosses were killed xdeadx in the riots. Troops fought each other everywhere. Food was bought up xawayx at once. There were no more food supplies in any shops. The economy was all crushed down. All the…See More

public servants

The exchange works directly for state and public workers and servants. It gives them credit in exchange for the amount of public work they contribute to the community. The more constructive they are based off a base rate the more credit they recieve.
