The future of online transactions

As online transactions become increasingly important, so does security of these transactions. I believe that there should be a governing body of the world or of each government that deals largely in e-commerce and regulations that protect both buyers and sellers.

The organization could introduce it's own form of currency where people buy into the currency at a specific exchange rate and utilize the credits within the organization that are safe and garaunteed just like a…

Microlending for Entrepreneurs

I think that borrowing money from others is limited in usefulness unless the money is being used constructively to motivate the borrower. I've been keeping pace with microlending organizations such as www.kiva.org. These websites are places where people can visit to loan small sums of money to needy entrepreneurs in developing parts of the world. You can read about who you are donating to and their vision for their future. From what I understand as well, the…

Bartering over the Internet

I would like to add a cautious tale of "bartering" over the Internet to this effort. When dealing over International boundaries, even state lines, it is VERY easy to be taken advantage of. What's worse is that if you are a victim of such a crime there is often little to nothing you can do about it outside of taking matters into your own hands, which can be illegal and dangerous in its own right. I'm dead serious here in that the police or justice system really…

Oled Screen Idea from the Comic

I really think the idea of using OLED screens to let people know about unpotable water was a huge innovation. I would like to chnage this up a little though, and make it so that whenever a person drained any sort of fluid that the OLED would show the person what path of water is affected by the draining. This way, they are not only better aware of what they are doing with water, but also where exactly the water is going ~ imagine the drainage going into a river, which then gets processed into… Continue

Raising Awareness -- Water Conservation in the Workplace

Since I don't get out much other than for school or work, I think that the best thing I could do is to help raise awareness in my workplace or at school. There are several easy to use tips that many people take for granted, such as watering plants with clean water ~ using used sink water instead is a great way to water plants as an alternative.

Tips like this can be…

Storm Drain Stencils - Earthwater Stencils

I like this idea because it's a fun and creative way to increase water safety awareness. The concept is to sell stencils that help community members to prevent water pollution; these stencils can be used to paint or draw warnings around community drainage points that may empty into rivers or watersheds.

I think this concept can definitely be taken further, the images may need to be a bit more imaginitive to appeal to children, it should be a fun activity for them to paint or…

Christmas Time 2020

I think that the Holidays, or Christmas time is one of the most electricity consuming holidays. Everyone's cooking, watching TV, etc. What if we could harness exercise equipment to generate some extra electricity, people would burn off the excess calories from eating and generate extra electricity as well. Or, maybe through wireless electricity technology (since it's 2020) you could be getting wireless power from a local gym!

Powering a laptop by biking to work

For my work, a laptop is essential. I think it would be very possible to generate energy from something like riding a bicycle. The energy from the rider would be able to charge the laptop's battery. Depending on the length of the trip it may or may not be enough; maybe there's some way to also make this a more effective charging process by combining with solar power or wind power?

IDEO: Livingclimatechange.com

"As part of Living Climate Change, IDEO imagines a future shaped by the context of expensive electricity – where power needs to be harvested to charge toys and ubiquitous computing devices. This video offers an interesting contrast to its counterpart, Escape, which depicted how schoolyard play might offset the cost of fossil…

Food in 2020

I like to think that in 2020 I am with my family eating food that has been a tradition in my family (Cambodian) since I was a child. Lots of fresh vegetables and fish, white rice, and soups. Although I am a terrible cook I would like to be able to make some of this myself or with my Mother. I'd like for some of the vegetables to even be home grown in the backyard; this is how my Mom currently does things!

Come to think of it, it doesn't really need to be 2020 to enjoy this,…

Excess Fruits for the Needy

I think a easy and great idea would be to find local areas where fruits such as citrus or grapefruits grow and to get this excess into the hands of those in need ~ these are areas of land that are either unpopulated or unclaimed. I know of at least a few that have readily available fruit trees to pick from; the sheer amounts of "free fruit" would be a great benefit for others!

Where would I be?

In 2020 I would be living a simple life, enjoying the little things and learning as much as I can about whatever sparks my interest. I would have like to have established my own sustainable business that I am proud of and that those closest to me have a vested interest in. I want to be doing the things that I enjoy and getting paid to do it. Working with technology, entertainment, and bringing people together is what I would be doing!

Emily Pilloton - Prject H Design

The hero I would like to shadow is Emily Pilloton of Project H Design. In her video from Poptech she speaks about her initiatives to help those in her community and those worldwide. The way that her non-profit keeps up with its projects and "customer" centric focus really resonate with me. "Don't build a bridge ask how you can cross the river". I believe that this approach is appropriate for the pace of change of today's challenges; she's really trying to find ways to make lasting change rather… Continue

Staying Positive

One of the key points from this list is staying positive -- NOT being distracted by what other people think. This tip is so important because it truly embodies the notion of harder, better, faster, stronger; it's the ma**** that don't understand how much of a breakthrough something can be because they are under the impression that everything out there "is what it is."

This tip will help to change the world; it is already helping to change the world. Sustainability,…

Fourth of July on the Lake

This past weekend was the annual celebration at the lake house in Connecticut. It is amazing that the lake is still so clear and beautiful after all these years. The watershed association has done a wonderful job protecting these waters from the damaging effects of development. The wood grill was finally ready to cook on, so we didn't miss the propane tank fueled grill anymore. The food actually tasted fresher than in the past and was easy to keep fueled.Dad was very proud of the solar hybrid…See More

Stinging Nettle

In this blog post I will focus on a plant that is abundant in our nature, and which is immensely nutritious. It's of course the Stinging Nettle. Let's start with the chemical constituents of this plant:37 % Non-Nitrogen-Extracts19 - 29 % Ash9 - 21 % Fiber4 % Fat22 % ProteinOnce the leaves are drid, their protein content can reach an astounding 40 %, which is much higher than beef, which even under the best of circ**stances can never exceed 31 % protein. In addition the Stinging Nettle consists…See More

The meal

It is 7'oclock, I was late home from work due to an assignment that i wanted to get ahead on. By the time I get home I am feeling extremley tired and I cannot be bothered to make a proper meal. I walk to the fridge and open it to see what there is for me to eat. All of the out of date foodstuffs have been automaticaly thrown away by the fridge, they will be recycled tomorrow as animal feed or something. I see i have organic local eggs and some local cheese. Future

FutureToday is 2020/1/1. It is just like yesterday. The war is still continuing. It has started since 2010. In 2010, that year was a horrible year. Almost every energy ran out. Every country’s governments were crushed down at the same time. There were riots everywhere. All of the big company’s bosses were killed xdeadx in the riots. Troops fought each other everywhere. Food was bought up xawayx at once. There were no more food supplies in any shops. The economy was all crushed down. All the…See More

public servants

The exchange works directly for state and public workers and servants. It gives them credit in exchange for the amount of public work they contribute to the community. The more constructive they are based off a base rate the more credit they recieve.
