My thoughts about EVOKE Season 1

I took part in EVOKE as part of a project for my academic studies. Because of this my answers for this Mission will differ from the ones of the Mission. But as the work was done anyway I think it is ok to share what I have written. Maybe it will do something good. We were given eight questions, which I will show in the following. The questions were answered in German, so I will give you a short abstract of my answers in headwords.

1. What positive experience have you made while…

Coming to Terms With Uncertainty

I want to share my insight about the first of the five secrets of crisis communication “Coming to Terms With Uncertainty”.

In times of the internet news spread very fast around the world. To sell your story you have to come first. Out of this there isn’t really time for the journalists to investigate the story they want to tell about. What we often get from this is half-truth.

A very common doing these days is to put a story out there and a few minutes later it is gone or…

Time Capsule

I chose the traditional knowledge of food preservation as worthy to be saved in a physical object. I collected information from various sources like Wikipedia about food preservation for example with salt, drying or sugar. I printed this information on normal paper.

To protect the paper from environmental conditions I putted the paper in a time…

The Aral sea problem and its community based solution

My choice for this week’s LEARN-Mission is the story about the Aral Sea called “COMMUNITY PARTICIPATION IN SOLVING LAND AND WATER PROBLEMS IN THE RUNOFF FORMATION ZONE OF THE ARAL SEA BASIN (TAJIKISTAN)“.

The Aral Sea is a sea without outlet. It lies in Central Asia between Kazakhstan in the north and Uzbekistan in the south. The sea has fallen apart into some smaller seas because of drying up. The Aral…

Geseke in 2020

This is my hometown Geseke:

For 2020 there are a few improvements. As it is actually a small town in a rural area there is enough space around the city to grow.

Here are the improvements:…

Europe-wide blackout

The crisis I will face with this blog entry is a Europe-wide blackout. As the electric grid is connected all over Europe a malfunction in some part of Europe will fast spread all over Europe. Turning Europe from that

into this

More women political leaders needed

While scrolling through WomenWatch this story caught my eye because we already have a woman leading the government here in Germany, Bundeskanzlerin Dr. Angela Merkel. That got me thinking about which countries also have a women leading the government. Of course there is the Queen in England but women which are really the head of the state? I mean the queen is like our Bundespräsident, an important…

The "e" will change the world!

This is Jens Riewa live from Hamburg. Today is a big day as the new world-currency “e” is started.

More on that live from Marcel Feichtinger on one of the launching events from Berlin.

Thank you Jens. Today indeed is a special day. It…

Private loans - money from me for you!

While surfing the web about the future of money I came across pages that arranges loans between private people. I think that is a really good idea. The banks can provide companies with money; people can provide each other with money. As in the moment you get very little return when you put your money on the bank whereas the banks get very cheap money from the central banks. Also a credit is still not cheap. The banks make a lot of money.

With private loans the two parties meet in the…

Think big – together!

My motto for the World water day 2020 is “Think big – together!

The idea for the event is filling a glass-bottle with water. However not just any glass-bottle but the biggest glass bottle in the world. I’m thinking of a bottle of about 10 meters height or so. Such a bottle has a volume of around 100.000 liters so. On World water day 2010 over 60.000 people attended. In 2020 the topic of water will be in many more minds so hopefully more people show up on such an…

Solar Drinking Water Projects

There are so many water projects out there. But most of them are only installing pumps for wells to get water from the deep. The project I came across is adding one feature to this kind of projects, a sustainable energy source. As mostly the areas with small water amounts are lying in areas with a lot of sun hours why not use it?

The project is based in Ecuador and called Codeso. It consists of solar panels powering… Continue

Bicycle Wind Turbine

This week, Raphael and I started another collaboration for the ACT3 mission. We thought about what we use every day and could be powered differently. It becomes clear quickly that it is our mobile phone. So, we had an electronic device to power - But how? Usually, we charge the battery via USB with the PC or we simply use the outlet. We consider about different ways, how we can generate power to charge our mobiles.

Should…

Christmas in 2020 - family, candles and sustainable power

It is he 25th of December. The wh*** family gathered in the kitchen of my parents’ house. We are preparing the food for the annual “Raclette”. A lot to do for this. Cleaning the mushrooms. Cutting al the vegetables in pieces. Cooking the potatoes. But we are all together and have a lot of fun. It’s a family tradition since many years.

Of course this year is different. It is… Continue

Energy from Kites

I found the project KiteGen. They invented a Kite which uses altitude winds to generate power. Therefore a kite is flying in a height of about 1000m rotating in a figure of eight around the center structure where all the heavy machinery is located. In 1000m height the wind is very constant so the plant can produce power nearly the wh*** time. You could possibly argue that this thing would be a problem for planes. But the thing… Continue

Fortunately, nothing really to tell about

As I live in Brunswick, Germany food security is not really a problem. No one in Germany must die because of hunger, even people who are unemployed. They will get enough money from the government to even live a better life than most people in other countries in the world. Of course many of them will disagree. There is a small group of people, who have to fight every day to have enough food, the homeless people. But these people have chosen this lifestyle for themselves, if they are in Germany… Continue

Wasser für Balanka – Water for Balanka

My choice have fallen on the “Ingenieure ohne Grenzen”-Sub-Group from Brunswick. “Ingenieure ohne Grenzen” (engineers without limitations) is a group of people who help people to help themselves. The main working area for them is the water supply. The Brunswick-group is working on a project for Balanka in Togo. The problem in Balanka is that there is a lot of water in the rainy season but not enough fresh water in the dry season. So the people use water from tarns in the dry season. The thing… Continue

Waste powered cars and a smaller portion of meat

On Wednesday, April 4th in 2020 I will work for a German car company which produces green cars for the wh*** word. These cars will use power from various sources, all of course sustainable. No space where some day rainforest were will be used for this power. Same thing applies for the food I’ll be eating in the canteen of the company with some of my colleagues. All the food will come from local providers. No need for food to travel around the wh*** world only for the richer countries to have… Continue

Green cars, a quiet penthouse and a drive to a lake

In ten years I’ll be working in a German car company which produces green cars (a little bit more on that in Mission 2, got a little bit mixed up here). So this is more about my private life. I imagine living in a Penthouse high above a bigger German city. Not quite sure which one this should be. There are some I might quite like. The city will be a lot different from today, because of the new cars and other improvements. It will be very quiet and clean. So I’ll stand on the balcony of my… Continue

Innovation comes from constraint

My choice for the favorite secret is the first one. Not because it is the first one and I was too lazy to read the rest but while reading the rest, this one won’t leave my head.

“Innovation (often) comes from constraint (If you’ve got very few resources, you’re forced to be very creative in using and reusing them.) “

I’d like to start with a story from the cold war and the race to the moon. On the one hand there were the Americans who spent billions of dollars, on the… Continue

Fourth of July on the Lake

This past weekend was the annual celebration at the lake house in Connecticut. It is amazing that the lake is still so clear and beautiful after all these years. The watershed association has done a wonderful job protecting these waters from the damaging effects of development. The wood grill was finally ready to cook on, so we didn't miss the propane tank fueled grill anymore. The food actually tasted fresher than in the past and was easy to keep fueled.Dad was very proud of the solar hybrid…See More

Stinging Nettle

In this blog post I will focus on a plant that is abundant in our nature, and which is immensely nutritious. It's of course the Stinging Nettle. Let's start with the chemical constituents of this plant:37 % Non-Nitrogen-Extracts19 - 29 % Ash9 - 21 % Fiber4 % Fat22 % ProteinOnce the leaves are drid, their protein content can reach an astounding 40 %, which is much higher than beef, which even under the best of circ**stances can never exceed 31 % protein. In addition the Stinging Nettle consists…See More

The meal

It is 7'oclock, I was late home from work due to an assignment that i wanted to get ahead on. By the time I get home I am feeling extremley tired and I cannot be bothered to make a proper meal. I walk to the fridge and open it to see what there is for me to eat. All of the out of date foodstuffs have been automaticaly thrown away by the fridge, they will be recycled tomorrow as animal feed or something. I see i have organic local eggs and some local cheese. Foods are vacc** sealded for easy…See More

Future

FutureToday is 2020/1/1. It is just like yesterday. The war is still continuing. It has started since 2010. In 2010, that year was a horrible year. Almost every energy ran out. Every country’s governments were crushed down at the same time. There were riots everywhere. All of the big company’s bosses were killed xdeadx in the riots. Troops fought each other everywhere. Food was bought up xawayx at once. There were no more food supplies in any shops. The economy was all crushed down. All the…See More

public servants

The exchange works directly for state and public workers and servants. It gives them credit in exchange for the amount of public work they contribute to the community. The more constructive they are based off a base rate the more credit they recieve.
