A crash course in changing the world.
This week, Raphael and I started another collaboration for the ACT3 mission. We thought about what we use every day and could be powered differently. It becomes clear quickly that it is our mobile phone. So, we had an electronic device to power - But how? Usually, we charge the battery via USB with the PC or we simply use the outlet. We consider about different ways, how we can generate power to charge our mobiles.
Should we buy a hamster? He could run in his wheel. Or should we buy solar panels? Both solutions did not satisfy us: The hamster has to be fed and solar panels are much expensive.
Our next idea was the following: Let us use something that we use (almost) every day, too! Our bikes! All we had to do was to do some handicrafts.
Our equipment:
Our simple and cheap solution:
We use the dynamo of the bike to generate power for the charger. But not only while pedaling! We use wind energy.
Our solution in action:
Wind was very low, but as you can see: Wheel turns and turns… :)
Annotation: Our solution is realized by a standard dynamo which produces much friction. This concept does not work really well, except it is stormy ;) But if we use a hub dynamo, we are able to generate electricity for our mobiles efficiently.
If you like our work, please also power vote for Raphael :)
