My favorite tip for innovation is "to innovate on existing platforms." Consumers will most likely buy products which they already know, recognize, and trust. A completely new invention or idea is very unlikely to be successful unless there are dozens and dozens or commercials and are being sold worldwide, but that is also very unlikely. For example, if someone invented a new robot that would wash the dishes, it wouldn't be very popular. But on the other hand, if a new dishwasher made by GE was created which washed like a normal dishwasher but twice as fast, the robot might be more efficient and cheap but the new GE dishwasher might be more famous and popular.
