Urgent Evoke

A crash course in changing the world.

It's 2020 and I am sitting in Kennedy Airport waiting to board a flight. My final destination is Benin Republic. The reason I'm on my way to Benin Republic is that the chapter of Engineers Without Borders(EWB) I started is going there to start our latest project. I started an EWB chapter 2 years after joining the organization. The chapter I have started tends to develop projects for people living in West Africa. We work on projects to bring affordable solar energy to small villages as well as ways to provide safe drinking water. Also in 2020 I will be working with the various governments in West Africa to develop their infrastructure. The goal is to develop the infrastructure of the various countries so that business will be attracted to the labor force and resources West Africa has. By attracting the businesses the goal is to create a win win situation for everyone including the environment. There is no reason why people can't advance in a harmonious way. So when I get the call to help out Tokyo I will take what I learned in Africa and apply the lessons learned to Tokyo.

I love how this vision of 2020 is a natural progression from your discovery of EWB on Heather Fleming's web page! Your vision of taking what you learned in Africa and applying the lessons learned to Tokyo is awesome!

I'm an engineer myself, and a huge fan of engineering! EWB is a great organization.

What kind of engineering did you study?

I'm trying to create a network for makers here on EVOKE, and as an engineer you might be interested: http://www.urgentevoke.com/profiles/blogs/makers-guild

Thanks Josh and Amos. First I am happy to see that someone took the time to read what I posted and second I am happy the you each left comments.

Amos: I studied mechanical engineering. It was tough but in the end well worth it. How about yourself what kind of engineering did you study?

I am not in college yet, but I will be studying Materials Engineering and I currently work for a small materials science related start-up.

Amos: Cool. What you are doing will help to make you a better engineer. Where do you want to go to school?

Olin College is my top choice, and MIT is my second choice.

"I love that you've brought this to attention. An extensive database of uncommon but resistant and hardy plants/foods could be developed and organized by climate. Ease of growth and processing should also be taken in to account. I will try to…"

Fourth of July on the Lake

This past weekend was the annual celebration at the lake house in Connecticut. It is amazing that the lake is still so clear and beautiful after all these years. The watershed association has done a wonderful job protecting these waters from the damaging effects of development. The wood grill was finally ready to cook on, so we didn't miss the propane tank fueled grill anymore. The food actually tasted fresher than in the past and was easy to keep fueled.Dad was very proud of the solar hybrid…See More

Stinging Nettle

In this blog post I will focus on a plant that is abundant in our nature, and which is immensely nutritious. It's of course the Stinging Nettle. Let's start with the chemical constituents of this plant:37 % Non-Nitrogen-Extracts19 - 29 % Ash9 - 21 % Fiber4 % Fat22 % ProteinOnce the leaves are drid, their protein content can reach an astounding 40 %, which is much higher than beef, which even under the best of circ**stances can never exceed 31 % protein. In addition the Stinging Nettle consists…See More

Future

FutureToday is 2020/1/1. It is just like yesterday. The war is still continuing. It has started since 2010. In 2010, that year was a horrible year. Almost every energy ran out. Every country’s governments were crushed down at the same time. There were riots everywhere. All of the big company’s bosses were killed xdeadx in the riots. Troops fought each other everywhere. Food was bought up xawayx at once. There were no more food supplies in any shops. The economy was all crushed down. All the…See More

public servants

The exchange works directly for state and public workers and servants. It gives them credit in exchange for the amount of public work they contribute to the community. The more constructive they are based off a base rate the more credit they recieve.
