One of my role-models, regarding her actions and perseverance, is Myanmar's Aung San Suu Kyi. Before winning the Sakharov Prize for Freedom of Thought in 1990 and the Nobel Peace Prize in 1991, she wins her country's general elections as head of the National League for Democracy with a 82% majority. She is however not allowed to rule: the military junta in power, which declared the elections, nullifies the results and does not hand over power. Suu Kyi is then put into house arrest in Rangoon, Myanmar, and has been for the better part of the last 20 years. She has only recently been allowed small liberties - for example, she will be allowed to "organize her party" for the upcoming elections, but will not be allowed to run. Her imprisonment has created great international outcry, and it is everybody's hope that she gets released and is allowed to lead Myanmar as soon as possible.
Suu Kyi is not on Twitter nor Facebook, but it is quite easy to follow developments on such a high-profile figure as her, and this is what I do.
