A crash course in changing the world.
This week I would like to introduce you to Alexandre Marciel. He is the deputy mayor of Toulouse in France. He thinks that a city can not only consume electricity. In fact Marciel thinks that a city is able to produce energy with the aid of the people who live there. His idea is to use the kinetic energy of thousands of pedestrians who walk through the streets of Toulouse every day. His project "Trott Elec" is inspired by a club in Holland where the dancers produce the power for the lighting of the discotheque with every move they do. In the floor there are electromechanic panels integrated which transform the kinetic energy of the dancers into electric power. Alexandre Marciel had the idea of using the same technique in pedestrian zones in Toulouse to collect energy to run the street lighting. This would mean that every footstep of a pedestrian who pa**** such a panel would produce a little bit of energy. If we sum-up all these little amounts of energy we can replace a huge part of the energy we use now to lighten up the streets. This would mean we can replace energy which is gained through fossil fuels or nuclear power plants.
I love the idea of using the energy we produce by just walking down the street. So for me Alexandre Marciel is a great Power Player. I hope in the future we can produce even more electricity by integrating these panels also in busy roads or highways.
