Urgent Evoke

A crash course in changing the world.

In 1985:
  • I was a little girl living in Yugoslavia ...
  • all the products we used were labeled "made in Yugoslavia": cars, telephones, shoes, cosmetics, ...
  • we could just buy local food in the shops ...
  • so for the "luxury items" like bananas, chocolate, coffee and pineapples we went from time to time to big shiny shopping centers in Italy or Austria ...
  • in 1985 we lived our lives LOCALLY.

In 2010
  • I'm a young woman living in independent Slovenia ...
  • all the products we use are labeled "made in China": toys, shoes, jackets, gardening tools, ...
  • we can at all times buy fresh not-seasonal food ...
  • once luxury foods are so common and lowpriced, sold in the big, noisy and crowded shopping cities ...
  • in 2010 we live our lives GLOBALLY.

In 2020
  • I can't predict where I'll be living ...
  • but I'm sure that the other part of the World won't support and tolerate our excessive "western" lifestyle anymore ...
  • we westerns will have to tighten our belts and more equally share the World food and other resources ...
  • so I think my 2020 dinner will be more like the one back in 1985: local and sesonal food mostly, however I'll still have some global treats at the end of the meal like fair trade coffee, tea or chocholate.

Bon Apetit! :)

Interesting stuff. Perhaps most of your goods will be labeled "made at home." What do you think of the new 3d printing tech coming online?

Nice!!! You give historic perspective, things have changed and will change in the future.

today I talk to one friend about how our life will change in the future and he said that we will live GLOCALLY :)
@Patricio: It's almost impossible to predict future, so we have to learn from history and than mix it with some intuition to get some vision ...
@Brian: like your "made at home" label and yes, I was reading about 3d printing tech - really revolutionary stuff.

Great post - I often think that we Africans work hard to "live the American life" e.g eat fast foods, drive fuel guzzling cars, live solitary lives when many in the developing world are looking to the simpler life - what we have here in Africa where we grow our own food, most people walk, bike or take public transport, many of our clothes and shoes are still hand made etc. +1 Vision

Loved the summary, +1 VISION from me.
@Brian and Elastika : rapid prototyping is a great resource for specific applications, but the idea of a mass use for production scares me a bit: materials and chemicals involved in the process are generally far from being sustainable...

Your experience from the 80s comes in handy, I see. Well done!

I'm not sure, if we have to give up stuff, that we will have much choice in the matter.

Fourth of July on the Lake

This past weekend was the annual celebration at the lake house in Connecticut. It is amazing that the lake is still so clear and beautiful after all these years. The watershed association has done a wonderful job protecting these waters from the damaging effects of development. The wood grill was finally ready to cook on, so we didn't miss the propane tank fueled grill anymore. The food actually tasted fresher than in the past and was easy to keep fueled.Dad was very proud of the solar hybrid…See More

Stinging Nettle

In this blog post I will focus on a plant that is abundant in our nature, and which is immensely nutritious. It's of course the Stinging Nettle. Let's start with the chemical constituents of this plant:37 % Non-Nitrogen-Extracts19 - 29 % Ash9 - 21 % Fiber4 % Fat22 % ProteinOnce the leaves are drid, their protein content can reach an astounding 40 %, which is much higher than beef, which even under the best of circ**stances can never exceed 31 % protein. In addition the Stinging Nettle consists…See More

All of the out of date foodstuffs have been automaticaly thrown away by the fridge, they will be recycled tomorrow as animal feed or something. I see i have organic local eggs and some local cheese. Future

FutureToday is 2020/1/1. It is just like yesterday. The war is still continuing. It has started since 2010. In 2010, that year was a horrible year. Almost every energy ran out. Every country’s governments were crushed down at the same time. There were riots everywhere. All of the big company’s bosses were killed xdeadx in the riots. Troops fought each other everywhere. Food was bought up xawayx at once. There were no more food supplies in any shops. The economy was all crushed down. All the…See More

public servants

The exchange works directly for state and public workers and servants. It gives them credit in exchange for the amount of public work they contribute to the community. The more constructive they are based off a base rate the more credit they recieve.
