Provide skills, not just finished technologies.
"The current revolution in design for developing countries is the notion
of co-creation, of teaching the skills necessary to create the solution, rather than simply providing the solution. By involving the community
throughout the design process, you can help equip people to innovate and
contribute to the evolution of the product. Furthermore, they acquire
the skills needed to create solutions to a much wider variety of
problems. They are empowered."
Continued third world poverty depends on the enduring helplessness of those afflicted who feel they have no alternative options. Educating people to help themselves, by providing the skills to innovate, creates a legacy which can be passed on and create an environment where the helpless dependent on handouts have the capacity to make a difference in their own lives and the for the community as a wh***, not just in the short term, but for generations into the future. An attitude of ambition and the opportunity to achieve it is essential for any individual to change their situation. Without those two tools, nothing can be achieved. People need to have a goal and feel that there are attainable ways to achieve that goal. Skills and education are essential to drive ambition. Ambitions creates energy. Energy provokes efforts to change.
