Urgent Evoke

A crash course in changing the world.

EVOKE ACT10 - Season 2 novellet - "Great ideas often receive violent opposition from mediocre minds." -Albert Einstine

"Look I just cant!" Ty cries at the computer screen. An urgent EVOKE from alchemy flashing across the screen asking all active agents to step up and assist the main group.

Closing the computer lid she stands and paces the room while some of her guild-mates look up at her with curious eyes.

Looking at them a wave of guilt, anger and despair wash over her and she turns to leave the room quickly.

"What's going on?" one of her friends asks softly finding Ty curled up in the hallway.

"You know how I've been getting the food right? Through the game?" Ty says not looking up from where her head rests in her arms.

"Yea"

"Well the MOD of that particular game is in trouble and needs my... needs OUR help."

"What kind of help?"

Ty srugs "Legal help, monitary help, check the CiX news feeds, they've released all this stuff about evoke and now governments are looking for answers, for scapegoats and people are demanding more help. How can I help something like that? I literally can't LEAVE here, no passenger flights have left Japan for months, whatever gas the airports have is being conserved for emergencies. I have no money to give, no legal advice to offer, no time to leave to go protest the government. F*** I can't even do that because I'm a f***ing GAIJIN, they barely give me my rationed rice already at the city office."
She spits the last words out.
Over 10 years in Japan and she knows her place. She's not Japanese, she will never be Japanese, she has been and always will be a second class citizen here only on the governments good graces.

"I just... I just can't do this anymore... I can't help anyone."

-----------

"You have to come home. It's all over the news now and so is your face."

Ember covered her face trying to hide her stress from her husband who was pleading with her over the telescreen.

"Kwame I... I can't just leave everyone here."

"You can't just STAY!" He says starting to raise his voice. Ember looks at him with a start, a little shocked and angry that he was starting to yell at her.
"We can get you a lawyer, a good lawyer. You had good intentions but the longer you're gone the more of a fugitive you are. The police have come here, what do I tell them? What do I tell your daughter? My mother is..." He stops.

"Your mother is what?" Ember inquires, her husband looks away. "Your mother is WHAT?"

"My mother is saying I should save face and file for a divorce now. It's better to be a single father then the husband of a criminal."

"Kwame..." She looks at the screen her breath catching in her throat, the room closing in around her.

They're silent for a time, Ember doesn't know what to say, what to do.

"Give me a little more time." She says, her husbands mouth opens but she quiets him with a raised hand. "I'm coming home."

------------

Quinn smiles to the sea of cameras before him, police shoving the press away so he can get into the court room.

"Do you have any comment about allegations of international espionage?"
"Do you think the charges against you are valid!"

They shout his name, demand answers, try to get a shot of his guilt or innocence.

At the top of the steps he turns to them and holds his hands up silencing the crowd
"... I am Batman!" He says with a grin before jauntily heading into the UN court room.

Let them put that in their news-pipe and smoke it.

-----------

"Cypher!" Eureka calls reaching out from behind the prison bars "How did you get out?!"
The police come up and open her cell as well, signaling that she's permitted to go.

"The Citizen X network has a few lawyers that I'm close with and they donated the money to post bail. We're news hounds but that doesn't make us bad people."

Eureka makes a face, she definitely doesn't want to be indebted to the very organization that helped her get into this mess in the first place, but realistically she knew it was only a matter of time before she ran up against something too big to handle.

"We're lucky we got caught here and not America or something or we'd never even see the inside of a court let alone the opportunity to be released anytime this decade." Mutters Cypher as they go to gather their things.

Eureka shudders "Don't remind me." she says darkly walking away into the street. "I'd rather die before going through that... again."

---------

Rushing around the darkened room Alchemy throws equipment to the side, his network computers all flash a dangerous red "FULL NETWORK PURGE IN PROGRESS 70% COMPLETE"
The emergency EVOKE had gone out, now he had to protect his agents, whoever were left loyal to him that is.
Grabbing a bag he takes one last look at the room trying to remember if he's left any evidence, anything to tie the evoke network together. With a satisfied nod at the computer which flashes *100% COMPLETE* before turning dark, never to be turned on again he lights a match and flicks it at the ground.

"It's all up to you now."

Fourth of July on the Lake

This past weekend was the annual celebration at the lake house in Connecticut. It is amazing that the lake is still so clear and beautiful after all these years. The watershed association has done a wonderful job protecting these waters from the damaging effects of development. The wood grill was finally ready to cook on, so we didn't miss the propane tank fueled grill anymore. The food actually tasted fresher than in the past and was easy to keep fueled.Dad was very proud of the solar hybrid…See More

Future

FutureToday is 2020/1/1. It is just like yesterday. The war is still continuing. It has started since 2010. In 2010, that year was a horrible year. Almost every energy ran out. Every country’s governments were crushed down at the same time. There were riots everywhere. All of the big company’s bosses were killed xdeadx in the riots. Troops fought each other everywhere. Food was bought up xawayx at once. There were no more food supplies in any shops. The economy was all crushed down. All the…See More

public servants

The exchange works directly for state and public workers and servants. It gives them credit in exchange for the amount of public work they contribute to the community. The more constructive they are based off a base rate the more credit they recieve.
