This is a bit of evidence in motion.
My husband and I plan to move within the next month or two to the inner city. Our hope is to plant a garden in our backyard not only for our benefit, but for the benefit of the neighborhood. Starting small, we could provide education on gardening and the essential knowledge of which crop to grow during which season. Our overall goal would be to provide and maintain a community garden where everyone could access and benefit from the food grown naturally.
I also know my husband has an idea of creating a restaurant modeling different styles of home-cooking from different cultures. His vision is to bring in kids other wise forgotten about and mentor them in the kitchen - much like Jamie Oliver did during his mentorship program in Europe. The kids would then turn around and have the skills needed to succeed in not only the restaurant/food industry, but society as a wh***. However, my husband's purpose for this restaurant is two-fold. The menu won't be concrete, and during the initial stages of menu-planning and changes he wants to bring in the homeless and offer them a sit-down meal where they are served as regular customers - for free. They would then offer feedback on the dishes served - giving them dignity in letting their voices be heard. There would even be possibility in allowing some sort of partnership with the garden (he wants the menu to offer as local/natural food source as possible) A brilliant idea in the works, for sure - and one that can be modeled throughout the US.
He didn't post this as his evidence for this selection, so I chose to brag on him a bit. :)
