Food Security: Sustainable Fishing
I'm still working on my LEARN2 objective, but I have been pulling together some research on sustainable fishing practices, since seafood is big in California and since overfishing affects so many people around the world. I had the opportunity to visit the Monterey Bay Aquarium today and picked up some information -- and took some pictures -- which I will be folding into a blog post or some other evidence soon, but here's a little taste.
This is a partial photo of one of the signs in the aquarium that explains how the fishing industry has affected Monterey, the surrounding area, and the ecosystem. The canneries used to grind up the unused fish parts to sell as feed, fertilizer, and so on, but at one point, the demand became so huge that they lobbied to have a law passed allowing them to grind up entire fish for that purpose. For those who don't know, the industry collapsed for a while in the Monterey area due to overfishing. Fishing limits are in place now, some areas are protected, and the fish populations are slowly growing.

The meal
It is 7'oclock, I was late home from work due to an assignment that i wanted to get ahead on. By the time I get home I am feeling extremley tired and I cannot be bothered to make a proper meal. I walk to the fridge and open it to see what there is for me to eat.
