Putting two needs together to find solutions The event is lit by candles which we have made from our own hives. We needed light and we needed pollination and now we have bees to polinate and light for our dinners - delicious honey too. The fireplace warms the room and lends glow to our cheeks as it doubles up to bake our potatos, garlic and peppers. It sounds basic but it is perfect. Tiny candles guide our guests to the door, one brings wine from her vinyard, another cheese from her goats, another her own baked apples and home made raisins.
We are celebrating the result of Evokes challenge ten years ago. We put together two needs and found a solution which has come to fruition many times now. The original idea was that Art is a need, humans have always made images, decorated, coloured. Children love to do it, if they have time and resources and adults too if they can remember their creative side and communities need resources, colour and joy. So a group of evokers got together to take brushes, paints, glues, canva****, papers all over to as many communities as possible to see people making wonderful beautiful work, some of which is brought back to The City of London, To Wall Street to all those big offices and people that appreciate having beautiful, authentic work from all over the world on their walls and a connection to the remote and poorer parts of the world. The money from the work goes back into the communities and people who made it and that in turn has helped revitalise poor areas. Over the last ten years talented people from these communities have built up reputations and in turn spread the word and promote others. The World Bank now runs a Cork Street Gallery with Evokers to promote the talent of these artists and artist communities.
