I think a combination of sport facilities, such as treadmill, and power generator. When you run to shape your body, you burn out your fat and create electricity! For example, a treadmill is connected to a power generator with a capacitor. So after the excercise, your cell phone or ipod can get charged. It also can connected to household power system, and then light bulbs can also be lightened.
So do more excercise and save money on energy!

You would definitely need a machine that did not set your pace (electronically) then, something unlike what is on the market.
On a macro level, non electronic machines at gyms (like for lat pull downs and what not) might be used by membership gyms to power some of its energy consumption such as for lights and electric equipment. Maybe the gov can subsidize somehow - probably best by subsidizing membership so that the gym can advertise as green thereby giving the gym-company the (marketing) initiative on the idea.
