Helping Feed Vancouver's Most Needy Families

After doing some research online about which is the biggest challenge to food security in my community (Vancouver, BC, Canada) I have come to the realization
(an unsurprising one) that it is in providing safe and nutritious food to the
most at-risk people: those from low-income families.

As I child, I was part of this group, so I know how difficult it is to concentrate on school or do other things when you lack a sufficient amount of healthy food.
But I didn’t know of all the existing programs in Vancouver that have been
designed to tackle these problems! There are already many solutions underway to
make low-income families in Vancouver more food secure:

“Food for Families” Food Bank Program- http://www.cityreach.org/program-foodbank.html

Community Kitchens Program which works in partnership with the Greater Vancouver Food Bank Society.
As a coordinator of a student kitchen project myself, I think this is one of
the greatest innovations to increase food security in a community.

City of Vancouver Food Policy Webpages: http://vancouver.ca/commsvcs/socialplanning/initiatives/foodpolicy/... Also, I didn’t know that the Vancouver Food Policy Council even existed! But now that
I do, I plan on attending one of their monthly meetings when I get home to
Vancouver in July. Their goals include:

Contribute in a meaningful way to the eradication of hunger in Vancouver.
Help ensure access by all Vancouverites to adequate, safe, nutritious and
culturally appropriate food in a dignified manner.
Encourage personal, business and government food practices that foster local
production, distribution and sale of food in a way that protects our natural
and human resources.
Encourage food-related activities that build community, foster civic
engagement, celebrate Vancouver’s multi-cultural food traditions and increase
public participation in the food system.

This week's evoke mission is one that I am personally very interested in and one which I plan on pursuing once I get home to Vancouver again.

"I love that you've brought this to attention. An extensive database of uncommon but resistant and hardy plants/foods could be developed and organized by climate. Ease of growth and processing should also be taken in to account. I will try to…"

Fourth of July on the Lake

This past weekend was the annual celebration at the lake house in Connecticut. It is amazing that the lake is still so clear and beautiful after all these years. The watershed association has done a wonderful job protecting these waters from the damaging effects of development. The wood grill was finally ready to cook on, so we didn't miss the propane tank fueled grill anymore. The food actually tasted fresher than in the past and was easy to keep fueled.Dad was very proud of the solar hybrid…See More

In addition the Stinging Nettle consists…See More

Future

FutureToday is 2020/1/1. It is just like yesterday. The war is still continuing. It has started since 2010. In 2010, that year was a horrible year. Almost every energy ran out. Every country’s governments were crushed down at the same time. There were riots everywhere. All of the big company’s bosses were killed xdeadx in the riots. Troops fought each other everywhere. Food was bought up xawayx at once. There were no more food supplies in any shops. The economy was all crushed down. All the…See More

public servants

The exchange works directly for state and public workers and servants. It gives them credit in exchange for the amount of public work they contribute to the community. The more constructive they are based off a base rate the more credit they recieve.
