A crash course in changing the world.

Tuesday, March 10, 2020

Today I got up early, did some yoga for exercise, then I headed off to work. Work was work, as usual- and was fairly uneventful. Don’t get me wrong, I love my job, but I love my family more, and all day I was thinking about the family dinner we were going to have in Ladner that night.

I got off work at 5pm then biked home to have a quick shower before heading to my mom’s house with my husband and our two kids. My wh*** family was gathering there for dinner to celebrate my uncle’s birthday. I had suggested a couple of weeks before that we should try and make it a completely local meal. My wh*** family knows how passionate I am about eating locally and sustainably, so they agreed to try this out. Everybody was to bring a dish they made themselves using only in-season ingredients from within a 100-mile radius of my mom’s house. The 100-mile birthday! we called it.

We brought an appetizer of kale chips (fresh kale from the UBC Farm baked with a bit of oil, salt, and spices in the oven) as well as a nice bean dip. Other dishes my family cooked and brought along included a delicious cabbage and leek soup made by my aunt; some herring my mom pickled herself; my brother made an apple crumble and, to my delightful surprise, my sister had helped him by making homemade vanilla ice cream to top it off! My cousin brought a few bottles of local wine from the winery on Westham Island (technically not cooking…but nobody complained!!).

Everything tasted AMAZING. We put candles in the apple crumble and sang ‘Happy Birthday’ to my uncle. I asked what he wished for, but he refused to tell me. I’m guessing he wished that we would all do this again very soon. That, or world peace. I love getting together with my family- it is one of the most important things to me. And seeing them so excited about eating locally and increasing their awareness of food security meant so much to me. I was surprised, but it was my mom who suggested that we all try and do the 100-mile diet together for 100 days. She knows that my husband and I try and do that as much as possible with our kids anyway, but she thought it would be fun to do it as a wh*** family. I wh***heartedly agreed. We will start on Sunday by getting together in the afternoon to trade some interesting seasonal recipes. I cannot wait! And my kids are even more excited than me!

"I love that you've brought this to attention. An extensive database of uncommon but resistant and hardy plants/foods could be developed and organized by climate. Ease of growth and processing should also be taken in to account. I will try to…"

Fourth of July on the Lake

This past weekend was the annual celebration at the lake house in Connecticut. It is amazing that the lake is still so clear and beautiful after all these years. The watershed association has done a wonderful job protecting these waters from the damaging effects of development.The wood grill was finally ready to cook on, so we didn't miss the propane tank fueled grill anymore. The food actually tasted fresher than in the past and was easy to keep fueled.Dad was very proud of the solar hybrid…See More

Future

FutureToday is 2020/1/1. It is just like yesterday. The war is still continuing. It has started since 2010. In 2010, that year was a horrible year. Almost every energy ran out. Every country’s governments were crushed down at the same time. There were riots everywhere. All of the big company’s bosses were killed xdeadx in the riots. Troops fought each other everywhere. Food was bought up xawayx at once. There were no more food supplies in any shops. The economy was all crushed down. All the…See More

public servants

The exchange works directly for state and public workers and servants. It gives them credit in exchange for the amount of public work they contribute to the community. The more constructive they are based off a base rate the more credit they recieve.
