Did anyone ever read 20 Years After by Alexandre Dumas? It was part of the Musketeers series that focused on the central theme of "The more things change, the more things stay the same."
I view 10 years from now very similarly - and its scary.
Ideally, slow change will have been happening for a decade at that point. Secret Agents aren't called in to make long-term adjustments - rather they're called in for those important moments, those inflection points, where the future hangs in the balance.
James Bond wasn't sent in to negotiate taxes and embargoes...
When I am called, I know that it will be to delve into the minds of the Few who control the world for Everyone. I will have spent the last 10 years developing my ability to understand disparate mindsets; I will have trained to understand how to create win-win solutions for the success of all; and I will have been trained to notice subtle signs and weaknesses in 11th hour negotiations.
Hopefully when I'm called it will be to participate in a no-holds-barred Global Conference to discuss climate change, similar to the one predicted in 2015. I would like to be there in the hour when, we as Humans - not as Americans or Europeans or Asians - decide if we're going to survive...or if we decide that we'd rather be the instrument of our demise.
It will be a short mission. It will be an intense mission. And it will be an important mission...
...a mission worthy of a Secret Agent.
