Real Bank and Real Money
After the global collapse of fiat currencies and Bank runs that the fractional reserve banking could not handle there is a new hope: Real Money and Real Bank. The concept is very simple: The Dollar, the Euro, the Renminbi, the Ruppe . . . all currencies were disconnected from real assets, from reality and that´s why they collapsed. It got even worse when virtual currencies from games where exchanged for real objects. The energetic cost, the real impact every purchase has on a social and environmental levels was abstracted even further. Instead Real Money is based on real objects and real time. You work an hour = 1 Real Money Unit. I kilo of bananas = 1 Real Money Unit. Real Bank units can´t be printed unless there is a real tangible object or quantified hour of work. Simple. The Real Bank is Community Owned by the San Pedro Community.
This is what Real Money looks like.
Sure this is just the beginning and complexity will emerge pretty soon. So far a Doctors hour is worth exactly the same as a bus driver hour, but everyone seems fine with it for now. @Iron: It seems that people in 2020 in San Pedro are choosing to establish a list of prices, so far it´s up to 987 products. This can only work for a limited time and in small communities like San Pedro, but it´s keeping the San Pedro Economy active and independent for now. Iron can you please share your ideas of feasible, effective, resilient, sustainable money systems could work for San Pedro in the long term?

This is a fun post! Are those nasturtiums on your Real Bank picture? "Salad" for the salad cart (pun on greenbacks--although your dollar bill is blue...). Do you differentiate between types/seasons of mangoes, or variations of dried or fresh?
Also, simple man-hours for amounts produced become complicated when lengthy drought, and then over-abundant rains threaten the banana and mango crops--and scarcity inflates the "value" of the commodity. All of a sudden, man-hours take second-seat to need-for-food, or other parameter. And what if everyone decides (as in Northern Thailand) that young mango leaves are also great for salad (paak soot), and eat so many of the shoots that the growth of entire groves of mango trees are stunted, and threatened by a grasshopper/locust invasion right after the humans had already eaten the young leaves? Abstractions wreaked by environmental or climactic changes can upset your real-bank cart... (I still vote for my SEPortCard...)
