A crash course in changing the world.
December 2011
Manila, Philippines
The University of the Philippines Manila National Telehealth Center has been using SMS and Email to connect rural-based physicians since 2006. When the new strain of Influenza scattered all over the globe, no one was safe from panic. Everyone rushed to the health centers. Resources were getting scarce. The country needed a rapid way to disseminate up to date information even to the farthest regions.
A textblast...to local physicians, scattered all over the country, trusted by the public.
Luckily, UPM NTHC already has that capability. Using an open source SMS managing software FrontlineSMS,
UPM NTHC connects and spreads accurate information the wh*** country by texting the Doctors to the Barrios (DTTBs), which are trusted government healthcare providers in their respective municipalities.
