A crash course in changing the world.
For this mission, I took some time looking through the different social innovators that have been recognized through the suggested
organizations. When I settled on searching through the recognized Akosha
Fellows, I decided that the person I would be most interested in shadowing
would be someone who had similar interests.
As a youth services librarian at a public library I am very interested in youth
(teens, particularly) and how to reach them, educate them, and provide them
with resources so that they can go on to become confident and empowered
individuals. With that being my starting point, I began to browse the
various innovators who were working toward at-risk youth oriented
objectives. I focused on the geographic area similar to my own so that I
might be able to best extrapolate some of the ideas presented and keep them for
potential further use with my own community's teens. And then while
looking through the people who were in this sector, I came across Jean-Francois
Archambault of Quebec, Canada.
Jean-Francois was recognized by the Akosha Fellows in 2009 for his work with La Tablée des Chefs - an organization which he both founded and acts as General
Manager of. Through his organization, Jean-Francois has led a team of
chefs to impart knowledge of food planning, nutrition, and health awareness to
teens. The hope of this organization is to transfer culinary skills and
knowledge to impoverished youth in order for them to empower themselves and help
change their own future. The organization began in 2002 and continues to
flourish today.
I've followed Jean-Francois through a social network called LinkedIn - though
he's not replied to my messege on that network as of yet. I also read a
few different articles that were written up by Radio-Canada (here's one of the
ones I found:

And lastly, through the main website of La Tablée des Chefs:
