Living in Copenhagen, capital of Denmark, where we have no food shortage at all, I found it difficult to support someone I know in regards to food security.
But browsing the Evoke website I quickly came about the
http://www.kiva.org website.
Sure I could find someone to support this way and increase their food security. By selecting a project with long term perspectives I have been able to fulfil the mission.
The Kiva allows for the loans to be returned, and thereby re-loaned to someone new making the idea even more useful.
I hereby pass the idea forward to anyone who can spare as little as $25. It is less than most of us will spend on the next piece of clothe or just a dinner at a restaurant.
While browsing the site my kid came into the room. He could not sleep, so we had a little chat about what I was doing. Even thou he is only 7 years old he could easily see thae smart thing in lenting small amounts of money to help someone. And when it was on the other side of the globe only made it more interesting.
So by this act, I have also had the opportunity to teach my kid about global awareness. Something that is even more valuable than the loan it self. Now we can spend the next weeks and months to see how our loan is handled. I think it will be a fun thing to spend time with him on.
