Amnesty International USA is supporting the International Violence Against Women Act in the US Congress and Senate. The International Violence Against Women Act was re-introduced in the 111th Congress by bipartisan teams in the House and the Senate on February 4th, 2010. I chose to to donate to Amnesty's "Stop Violence Against Women Campaign"
through care2.com for the ACT6 mission.

The legislation will integrate violence prevention in US foreign policy and support innovative programs that have been shown to effectively reduce violence against women and girls. By 2020, I hope these programs will be in place along with all of the others that are profiled on the GlobalGiving site so that Naseeba Bibi (the woman profiled in my LEARN6 mission blog post) will be secure and that her children--her youngest will be 11 years old--will live in a safe and secure environment.
I can imagine that Naseeba will find a shelter in Lahore which will provide her with temporary housing and child care while she pursues education and job training provided by the programs put into place beginning in late 2010. Then, she will be able to obtain good employment (perhaps running her own toy stand and employing other women to make toys) and be able to provide food, shelter, and education for her children.
