So I finally had time to come back to Evoke today, and I got a good look at how much I have to do to catch up. It is a rather hefty task. But I have to start somewhere.
I live in the US, North Eastern Ohio, and the food security here is very good. Poverty, more than food scarcity, is what threatens our food security, I think. That said, there are always things that can be improved, and plenty of neat projects.
On the national scale the US senate just passed the
Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010. It includes higher standards for food in public schools, funding for farm-to-school and school gardening projects and subsidies for underprivileged areas for free lunch programs. It's probably not all we could wish for, but at least this issue is in the political consciousness.
And in a more local arena, I found
Local Food Cleveland. They have workshops on sustainable and organic practices as well as symposiums and community outreach programs. I'm going to be keeping an eye on their upcoming events, and hopefully as the semester winds down go participate.
