A crash course in changing the world.
Polluted water is a cause of disease in developing countries and worldwide. 80% of the diseases in developing countries are reducible to polluted water. Big water treatment plants are not possible in rural areas because of the sparsely settled environment. A group from "Engineers without borders" from Darmstadt decided to develop a system which disinfects water. Because the system had to be simple, cheap to built and for different places, they decided to use solar power to built it. Therefore they don't need electricity or chemical products which means that their system is environmentally friendly.
Water is piped in black pipes and therefore heated up by the sun. Because of the heat bacteria and germs get killed.
The first systems were installed in Kenya in 2011.
