The United Nations UN-Water org
http://www.unwater.org/flashindex.html because this is a joint effort to bring awareness to many countries:
"UN-Water is composed of representatives of 26 United Nations organizations. United Nations organizations include those responsible for major funds and programs, specialised agencies, regional commissions, United Nations conventions and other entities within the UN system. Other organizations outside of the United Nations are partners in UN-Water"
UN-Water connects government officials, who may be empowered to assist with the changes required to reduce consumption, and to share solutions to water shortage related issues.
UN-Water sponsor the annual "World Water Day"
http://www.worldwaterday2010.info/ which builds awareness that the western world needs to change their mindset that water is an endless supply.
I think the more we can connect with other countries the more we can help make the world a better place.
As an aside to looking up projects on water of interest I found this video
http://www.cbc.ca/doc**entaries/passionateeyeshowcase/2010/futureea... which talks a lot about issues facing us about water. The fact that North American's use more water to flush a toilet than a sub-Sahara uses in a day made me stop and think. Time to get a water-saver toilet.
