I have always had intense respect for people not just fighting against injustice, but doing it in circ**stances and in places in which it is genuinely dangerous for them to do so.
A prime example of someone doing this is Shada Mohammed Nasser, a lawyer in Yemen who for the past few years has undertaken the gargantuan task of bringing about the end of child marriage a country in which it is sadly a deeply-ingrained practice.
She achieved wide public recognition and accolades in 2008 for taking up the case of 10 year-old Nujood Ali, a Yemeni child bride who sued for divorce from her 30 year-old husband who had abused her physically and sexually during their time together. Nasser took her case for free and helped Ali win her divorce. The two of them were awarded the Glamour Magazine Women of the Year Award for 2008.
To learn more about this remarkable woman and her quest, here are two articles that I encourage you to read.
