A crash course in changing the world.
The innovator I chose to shadow is Mr Mohamed Yunus who is a Bangladeshi economist and banker. He developed the concept of microcredit whereby loans where given to entreprenuers who are too poor to qualify for bank loans. He is also the founder of Grameen Bank. I chose him because his approach to social development is one which has potential of being sustainable in the long term and truely empowering poor people, especially women. Instead of giving out money or ignoring the issue at hand, he was inpired, by Dr. Akhtar Hameed Khan, to give poor women an opportunity to take out loans and make a difference in their own lives and hence become self dependent and empowered to uplift the social dilemma at hand.
At the moment I have bookmarked the Grameen Bank website and I aim to 'step out of the shadows' and send the organization and email.
