last night terry smith and I were brainstorming about ways to benefit the local community, and
we realized we had the resources and skill sets to help out through the
YMCA. Ourgoals are focused on the summer camps as a test phase, to see
how much of a difference we can make. However, we would like to spill
this volunteer basedprogram over into the StrYvers department to give
them something to work towards in the community. Our ambitions are
simple, if we can provide enough support to send one more child to camp
this summer, than we will have succeeded.
The process to
achieve this involves petitioning local businesses that are not already
supporting the YMCA for various types of donations including food
vouchers, or money. Once this is achieved, we can then branch from this
initial starting point and begin planning events to benefit the
community, and work along with other programs such as the Canadian food
bank. Eventually, we can start planning things like fundraisers in the
form of concerts, or seminars, bringing in public speakers to talk about
the issues like food security.
Primary Goal: Free camp budgetary room by securing
donations to the camp food budget.
Secondary Goal: Leap frog from a focus on camp to provide struggling YMCA members with a food service.
