A crash course in changing the world.
Ten years from now I visualize myself as a tenured professor in an educational institution that has the word “University” or the words “Community College” as part of its name. I will be teaching mainly courses on Romantic poetry, Victorian literature, and Digital literacies and literatures, but will also teach courses on American literature, 18th century literature, and writing and composition. I will not be “changing the world” but I will be doing something just as important – teaching our youth to think critically and creatively. It is, after all, critical and creative thought that will help change the world.
By then my now current research on games and learning and of games as literature will have likely run their course (I’ve been working on them for about 5 years, 15 years of research is usually enough to have found out enough to make a sizable impact) and I will be likely beginning to experiment with linguistics and the possibility of a single lingua franca for the world. I’ll eventually find out that it’s impossible, as distances and cultures and societies DO influence language change, despite what Noam might say about “what about sociolinguistics?”.
I will also be helping my wife with her company which will focus on clean energy and its implementation. By then we will have designed self-sustainable homes and efficient electric cars in order to reduce environmental pollution, and we will be working on a way to clear radiation and toxic waste from water, in preparation to a possible nuclear strike. However, this will be my wife’s prime endeavor. I will just be providing support.
