Is bartering obsolete? At any given time, somewhere in the world barter is very much being practiced. In Germany after both world wars, bartering rose again as a system to replace the collapsed monetary system. In third-world countries, there are several which don't have a system beyond barter to depend on. In many cases of bartering. People will accept things of intrinsic value for their own products or services with the intention of retrading them in the future, and not for their own use. The internet is to a great extent comprised of "free" information being traded back and forth. There is a question as to whether this is to be considered a form of barter as well. Bartering has in more recent times received a bad rap. There are negative connnotatons associated with it as being a primitive form of business transaction. The thing is, it is iron solid. Monetary systems may come, go, and even fail. There will always be a need to depend on each other for goods and services for which bartering will always be a potential answer.
