Okay, so I just did something I think deserves a couple courage points. I sent an email to the makers of Dirt: The Movie (trailer in the videos section) asking them if they would give an exclusive online access to members of the Evoke network.
Here's what I wrote:
Hi, my name is Kate and I'm a member of something called Evoke http://blog.urgentevoke.net/2010/01/27/about-the-evoke-game/
Evoke is an online game designed to save the world by getting people from all around the world engaged in solving the world's problems by cloaking it in the guise of a futuristic online game. As an Evoke agent, one of my missions involves learning about food security internationally and locally. It was because of this that I found myself at a screening of your movie last night in Ottawa. I loved it and was deeply inspired, and it has greatly informed my final Evokation (a final project that can be made into a real life charity/organization, with the help of the World Bank/UN).
I'm writing to you because I think all of the Evoke network should see your film, but as it is an international organization this might be difficult. So, while it is a long shot, I thought I would ask if you could maybe do some sort deal with the Evoke network people, where your movie could be posted online exclusively for evoke members, or maybe do a special one time only online screening, advertised on the Evoke website, where your movie is available for a specific period of time, so that Evoke agents all over the world can be inspired by your film just like I was.
I know this is a long shot, but it never hurts to ask right? You can contact me and/or contact the Evoke people (Press inquiries: Contact evokenet@gmail.com) if you think this is something you might be interested in.
Thanks for listening, and thank you for your wonderful movie!
I have no idea if they'll go for it, or even respond, but I thought I'd give it a try. What do other people think? Could this work? Any game runners have any suggestions? A better contact email to give them perhaps? Let me know, this really is a brilliant film, and I think everyone should see it, and with the power of the internet we can totally make that happen if we want to.
