A crash course in changing the world.
I live in Brunswick. It is quite difficult for me to face a possible local crisis in the future. But one potential crisis could be modification of foodstuff. As we saw in early summer 2011 the EHEC bacteria (H5N1 virus) was a major threat to the public health in Germany. At that time members of the opposition heavily criticized the government's ineffective response to the emergence of a hazardous epidemic. On this account the Ushahidi platform would be certainly a good opportunity to react quickly and in a accordingly way. For such a pandemic disease it would be possible to share information about dangerous germs, the transmission path, preventive measures, help and advisers on location and maybe the planning of further measures.
But the Ushahidi platform isnt finished yet. A common error source is a disinformation campaign. Here it is important to filter out the relevant and correct information. For this purpose Swift River can be used. It is a automated analysis of all messages which reach the platform. Swift finds keywords and arranges groups. In short: The more messages are in a group the smaller is the risk of a false report. These kind of groups climb up the message-hierarchy. One difficulty could be that one message is very significant but is not in the ranking because the message is unique. This is a problem which should be solved in the future.
