A crash course in changing the world.
Sustainable energy has the potential to be integrated into our lives in almost any way imaginable. New technologies are being developed each year to take advantage of these oppurtunites. One student, Zachery Halem, is looking to put such technologies to use in his own life. Zach is a senior at Riverdale High School in the Bronx, New York. He had been interested in sustainable technologies for quite some time, but it wasn't until recently that he was able to make his passion into a reality. It came about through a London based energy company called Pavegen. They have developed what is being called a kinetic energy tile that can create energy through the movement of footsteps over it. A person could walk, jump, or stomp on these tiles to facilitate the reaction. Better yet these tiles can encompass an entire floorspace so that hundreds of people's footsteps can be absorbed. Zach helped convince Pavgen and his high school to install the tiles within the buildings of the school. He is hoping that this partnership is only the beginning of a movement that will put the tiles in locations all around New York.
