Wind Power - Cape Town's Renewable Energy

For years now, countries around the world have been exploring renewable sources of energy! The most prominent renewable energy sources are solar power, wind power and hydro power. Cape Town has ocean, sun and wind! It was only a matter of time before at least one of these renewable energy sources would be explored.

In May 2006, The City of Cape Town signed a 20-year agreement to buy electricity from the Darlington Wind Farm. This has certainly paved the way for an innovative partnership between local and foreign investors. The Darlington Wind Farm is South Africa's first commercial wind farm.

70 million rand was spent on the Darlington Wind Farm. Construction began in 2005 and ended in 2008. Four giant wind turbines were made and are generating 13.2 gigawatt-hours of electricity per year for the national power grid. Suppliers of the Darlington Wind Farm electricity pay 25 cents per kilowatt-hour of electricity. The City of Cape Town was the initial buyer of this electricity. The growing concern for global warming, caused by the burning of fossil fuels means that people are very keen to buy "clean" electricity.

The City of Cape Town aims to have renewable energy sourcing 10% of its electricity. This would mainly comprise of solar and wind power. The national government has set a target of an additional 10 000 gigawatt-hours a year in renewable energy for the national power grid by 2013.

We all know that renewable energy sources are the way forward. Cape Town showed great initiative with its wind power project and has taken a massive step in the right direction. Cape Town has also set itself realistic targets to achieve for renewable energy. Cape Town has set an example in initiative for other countries to follow.

Wow. Its interesting how a few large turbines over a small area can provide one of the largest cities of South Africa with power. Very interesting. Please read my blog on wind turbines :)

Fourth of July on the Lake

This past weekend was the annual celebration at the lake house in Connecticut. It is amazing that the lake is still so clear and beautiful after all these years. The watershed association has done a wonderful job protecting these waters from the damaging effects of development.The wood grill was finally ready to cook on, so we didn't miss the propane tank fueled grill anymore. The food actually tasted fresher than in the past and was easy to keep fueled.Dad was very proud of the solar hybrid…See More

Future

FutureToday is 2020/1/1. It is just like yesterday. The war is still continuing. It has started since 2010. In 2010, that year was a horrible year. Almost every energy ran out. Every country’s governments were crushed down at the same time. There were riots everywhere. All of the big company’s bosses were killed xdeadx in the riots. Troops fought each other everywhere. Food was bought up xawayx at once. There were no more food supplies in any shops. The economy was all crushed down. All the…See More

public servants

The exchange works directly for state and public workers and servants. It gives them credit in exchange for the amount of public work they contribute to the community. The more constructive they are based off a base rate the more credit they recieve.
