Urgent Evoke

A crash course in changing the world.

Working Name: Wonderment (inc. - if this goes anywhere)

So I know one needs both logic and creativity.

The way I see it there is enough logic and knowledge floating around the workspaces of today.

So I want to focus on a way of increasing creativity in adults much to the creativity levels children posess. However; one difference should ultimately exist between the creativity that the adults will posess in relation to a children's creativity: the naive quality.

But in order for the adults to unleash their hidden, creative sides they must push past the boundaries they have established within their minds to become more

- daring

- curious

- inventive

- original

in their thinking.

Ultimately I wish to change the wh*** way adults think. Their thought patterns would not lead them to absurdity of course, or their ideas would be straight-out rejected within society. However, I believe that in order for someone to make a change, they have to do something no one else has done, right? Well nothing much will change if millions of people every day follow the same path, too scared or worried to leave the established road and make their own.

I know I talk about roads a lot. Sorry ^^

- "Play is vital to learning and creativity for children and adults." - PJE

- "Playing frees you up to think and... oh yes it is fun too!" - PJE

- "It's really important to keep exploring and learning and being creative. Play a game, run around, be silly, imagine." - Sarah Hickox

From my other post I have picked out your ideas that appeal to me the most.

- A multiplayer creative space with goal oriented solutions could make people cooperate to achieve a goal through artistic means. - Shane M. Wheeler

- Do something with schools to encourage creativity, it could change the entire education system. - Nicolas Dkystra

- Childrens library for all ages - Katherine Morrison

Don't worry, Katherine, I promise I won't steal your idea. However, it reminded me of an idea I had a while ago that must have been lost and forgotten in some part of my brain. Basically, my idea would be more than a room, or an art installation. It would be on a grand scale - the bigger the better.

My idea would be a wh*** venue aimed at increasing adult creativity - although children would be welcome too of course. ^^

What would be in this venue, though?

Well I was playing around with a few ideas. When Nicolas mentioned that 'children have creativity, and somewhere along the course of life we loose it'; it got me thinking. What would happen if we reminded adults of their childhood? Would part of their brain come out of the shadows, remind them how much of a creative person they were?

The venue could be set up in three parts:

Part 1: Activities, installations and performances aimed at helping adults remember childhood.

Part 2: Activities, installations and performances encouraging creativity.

Part 3: Activities of installations incorporating the use of both creativity and logic.

So yeah, this is where my thoughts are taking me.

So tell me about your childhood, any significant memories, smells, tastes, ANYTHING. I want to hear it.

Also, any ideas about reminding yourself or someone else about your childhood would be great.

As you may have noticed, I would like to focus on part 1.

By the way, if any of you are curious about how people grow, you might be interested in some developmental theories that were talking about over in the pattern of life.

You should read The Artists Way by Julia Cameron (http://www.theartistsway.com/) It's mainly targeted for artists to get back in touch with their creativity, but that seems to fit with your concept for adults in general. She has some great exercises, assignments, concepts, quotes. It's just a goldmine! She definitely touches on the connection between creativity and childhood and how we lose it. But you'd be better reading the words straight from her than listening to my paraphrasing... It's been a few years.

Thanks for the mention. Also, I found the basic engine I was trying to find to design something like this. It looks like the original programmers already took it a step further with Algodoo.

Looks like a great free form way to teach kids physics without being boring, and letting them make their own machines and decisions. Still, I could see Phun or Algodoo, or a derivative new program being very useful for reaching this goal.

Good stuff Amber!
Thanks for asking. After reading your post, I realize that according to your focus:

"Part 1: Activities, installations and performances aimed at helping adults remember childhood."

I was sent back to the idea of the MARKETPLACE. Which was so precious to Socrates;
http://heritage-key.com/greece/agora-athens-marketplace-ideas

In society, we need a place of exchange, sharing, discussion. Throughout history, human had their space for meeting their numerous needs (economical, political, religious, etc...); the Greeks had the Agora, the Romans had the Forum. Unfortunately, in the recent history, we lost that sense of communion for exchange and sharing since our daily life expanded so much that we lost that connection with our community, until the Web come into life. We (people with computers) have now the Internet. And that, to me, is the "new" marketplace for the future. Thus, to link this to your post, I guess the Web is actually the space where we play, we exchange, we share, we buy, etc... basically, a place where we (can) feed ourselves with most of our needs and interests.
Right now, we are performing your Part 1; this game is actually offering us an ACTIVITY where we play like we were "childs" and that we show and demonstrate our new acquired skills. I guess we are performing that "childish" creativity that we might needed to dust off a bit by playing this game (with having in mind to succeed at it). I hope that this game will trigger some useful tools to make our "new" marketplace such a relevant, insightful, safe and joyful place to be.

Amber, you are on the right path. Good job! And keep it up!

Sebastian, what a great reminder! There is also the idea in the Zen Buddhism process described in the Ten Ox Herding pictures, where after enlightenment, the final stage is "Entering the market with open hands", saying that first we have to take care of our own demons, and tame them so that we can use them to serve our purpose of eliminating suffering, and once we've done that, we go out into the "Marketplace" to offer our best self.

I like this, a lot. From what I have observed it seems as though the lack of creativity in adults comes from social phobia and restraint. People are afraid to be different, they fear scornful eyes, they just won't do anything things that could draw negative attention. My picture is of me balancing on a pole. When I took it, people were giving me funny looks. I do free running, and I always get weird looks. I don't care, it's fun and good exercise.

Social inhibitors ruin the creativity of people as they age. I stopped free running when I reached High School, I recently started again because I realized it doesn't matter if people give me looks or call me weird.

... sorry, I'm rambling about myself, and that's rude. What I'm trying to say is that social inhibitors need to be done away with. I think you should focus on those and how to remove them. Make people more comfortable with their world.

excellent post!!! Logic comes from logos, creativity can be interpreted to come from Myth which comes from Mythos.

Logos and mythos, a balance that needs to be maintained for a wh*** life... the ancient Greeks knew this...

I suggest you read Karen Armstrong's works and see her charter for compassion... we need a charter for play as well.

Kristopher, telling valuable stories about yourself is the opposite of rude, as far as I'm concerned. :-) In fact, sharing meaningful stories about your life is what the world needs more of. But too many people feel that social phobia and restraint...

Letting people know that diversity and creativity and uniqueness are crucial to a successful evolving planet is the first step to unleashing the most beautiful power of the human mind, because creativity is what we're here for!

Agent Sofiia I love your idea (+30 vision). I soooo want to come to a place like this. A massive thanks to all of you who have added to the conversation too. I'd love to see some practical solutions to how one might go about getting a movement like this going. Do we need bespoke buildings or can we re-purpose existing property? Who would use it? How about funding?

Great work everyone I am SUPER impressed.

Fourth of July on the Lake

This past weekend was the annual celebration at the lake house in Connecticut. It is amazing that the lake is still so clear and beautiful after all these years. The watershed association has done a wonderful job protecting these waters from the damaging effects of development. The wood grill was finally ready to cook on, so we didn't miss the propane tank fueled grill anymore. The food actually tasted fresher than in the past and was easy to keep fueled.Dad was very proud of the solar hybrid…See More

Stinging Nettle

In this blog post I will focus on a plant that is abundant in our nature, and which is immensely nutritious. It's of course the Stinging Nettle. Future

FutureToday is 2020/1/1. It is just like yesterday. The war is still continuing. It has started since 2010. In 2010, that year was a horrible year. Almost every energy ran out. Every country’s governments were crushed down at the same time. There were riots everywhere. All of the big company’s bosses were killed xdeadx in the riots. Troops fought each other everywhere. Food was bought up xawayx at once. There were no more food supplies in any shops. The economy was all crushed down. All the…See More

public servants

The exchange works directly for state and public workers and servants. It gives them credit in exchange for the amount of public work they contribute to the community. The more constructive they are based off a base rate the more credit they recieve.
