Now that the game is officially over, I'm curious about the secret missions...1. Did everyone get one?  Or was it just some people?  (If so, which people?)2. What were the different missions?  I…Continue

Turil's Epic Wins! - Thank you to all you EVOKErs for making my life amazing!

I wanted to close out my blog in this game by thanking EVERYONE who participated in this game, and who got something valuable out of it even if they didn't participate. You just being here is making the world a better place. So thanks! You're a hero to me. :-)

And I wanted to leave a bit of my own story summarizing my own personal epic wins during this amazing experience as a final entry - sort of my own gratitude journal for EVOKE. Without EVOKE, I would never have had these… Continue

Thanks for nudging me to be more detail oriented in explaining my Evokation. My goal for ReBuffalo.org is to create a website that facilitates online collaboration. The typical geographically based online community is a source for news and a venue for deliberation. ReBuffalo.org, however, will be designed to facilitate group interaction rather than individual opinions. Collaboration is difficult to achieve offline and it is even more difficult online. As society continues to spend more and more time online we need to find ways to work together in this environment and deal with the depersonalization that can occur online due to physical distance and anonymity. ReBuffalo will be designed in a way that will help users focus on ideas, solutions, and action plans and reduce the amount of time wasted on petty squabbles. ReBuffalo will make it easier for individuals, organizations, and government to work together to both solve big problems and scale up small success stories. Another unique aspect of this project is that the site itself will represent no particular goals for Buffalo, NY. Though I can think of a lot of issues that the users of ReBuffalo.org might address (i.e. poverty, vacant housing) the site will ask users to decide on goals and chart the course.

Hi Turil,

Thanks for commenting on my Evokation (http://bit.ly/ddA3ZU). It's funny that you mentioned the possibility of using a strengths a****sment to enhance collaboration because I use Gallup's StrengthsQuest inventory (http://bit.ly/StxO6) with students at the community college that I work for. I have thought about incorporating a strengths philosophy into the site, but I would appreciate any ideas that you have on how to do this. As for specifics about the ReBuffalo.org (http://bit.ly/dlqnlt) website design it's still too early for me to say exactly what the site will look like. I hope to make the process of designing the site as collaborative as the site itself will be, so I am starting to put together a committee that will make web design decisions. However, some design options include gaming features such as those in Evoke or IBM's CityOne game (http://bit.ly/8YdTR3) and/or design features that support collaboration such as those found in Beth Simone Noveck's Peer to Patent site (http://www.peertopatent.org/). If you have any suggestions for how I can promote online collaboration please let me know.

Comment Hi Turil - check out http://www.techsoup.org they'll have or give all the help you need for a nonprofit including reduced priced software and have gone global. They also sponsor free virtual office space for nonprofits, info at http://www.nonprofitcommons.org I've had an office there for 3 yrs and it is fantastic platform for connecting with nps all over the world (we meet every week) and spreading awareness of your org in a way that works

public servants

The exchange works directly for state and public workers and servants. It gives them credit in exchange for the amount of public work they contribute to the community. The more constructive they are based off a base rate the more credit they recieve.

Where I will be in ten years.

Ten years from now I will be in a political job assisting with people in the midlands of South Carolina particularly the rural working class and farmers. As the class of people that feed the nation I find that it is imperative that we assist with making sure they produce as much food as possible. I would like to support local scientists as well that are leading in research on how to produce food more efficiently. I will also be participating in missions to foreign countries to help people with…See More
